lol I think it really depends on what you're doing with it. I've used Norton and Firefox for a long time and never had a problem with it.

See James, just stick to what works best for you. Its hard for somebody to say use FF or IE because i'm a IE lad and love it where other people can't stand it and will stick to what they are familiar with.

But... I have found FireFox to be alittle faster within changing tabs loading up.

Had Norton on mine with a 12 month free trial what I got when I purchased the computer, never cause a problem the odd time I get a pop up off Norton saying another window is trying to open without consent blah blah or whatever it says.

However I do have Ccleaner on it also to just clean up the computer, I have firefox and IE and use them for different things, like I find for general things such as Facebook, downloading programmes or anything I use IE, for everything else like gaming, work and e-mail I use FF.

Don't use IE. It's not very secure, and generally is a pain.

Firefox is decent. I used to use it but not anymore.
I moved onto Google Chrome until I realized that wasn't very secure either. So now I use SWare Iron, which is basically Google Chrome but a lot more secure.

Definitely recommend SWare Iron, as you get the speed and user-friendly interface that comes with Chrome, only without the privacy issues.

Urm guys, I need urgent assistance.

My quicktime player, suggested I updated it and I couldnt use Itunes unless I updated it so I said fine, install. Too around 10 minutes it was fine.

Then I googled Limitless the film, I usually watch films on Movie2k.com, never had an issue but the quality isnt so good so looked elsewhere. I clicked on a link, which kept loading loads of pages so I exited immediately.

I only use the latest version of AVG, and it came up "MALWARE DETECTED" So it had two options, move to vault, or open. Obviously I moved it too the vault.

I got around 7 pop ups of the same thing, then it said to restart, which I did.

As it rebooted, my home screen is different and I had a message about "Generic host 32". The bottom bar is different and also...this is my main worry..

Pages on Mozilla firefox are opening by themselves. Like... "Secure2452%&%£%5858megaad"

I think its in pretty bad shape, really need some urgent help

I downloaded it, scanned and it found 372 serious threats, which Iremoved. I scanned again after and 0 were found.

I shut down last night... Just turned computer on and I log in, it loads... But only the wallpaper. There are no desktop shortcut icons, there is no 'start' bar, its just the screen. I pressed ctrl alt detele to bring up task manager, and all the processes are running normally, with one difference being SYSTEM process is using 900,000 what ever it is. Which larger than usual.

I have tried kicking it but it isn't working. That's about all I know so any help would be lovely :)

Edit - even though nothing is happening on the computer, I still got a malware threat pop up? AVG identity protection is working overtime here,,,

Edit - Just managed to get it back up somehow, i dont even know...I typed funkysnooker in my browser...and 2 tabs opened searching for funkysnooker on Gnomeo? Gomeo? Which I dont even know what that is. But I dont like how my web browser is opening tabs and pages by itself. Can Malware disable anything that would usually prevent this happening?

If I were you, I would be taking it to a computer shop where they know what they're talking about, and can fix it directly.
(Not saying anyone here doesn't know what they're talking about, but just that it would be better to take it to a qualified computer engineer who can see the problem in his own)

What boyler_lfc said, you're best of taking it to a computer shop. It seems like you have something on your computer which is pretty malicious, and simply running a virus/malware scan doesn't always do the job.

Another suggestion would just be to run your computer in safe mode, and then do a system restore.

Hard reset. The only way out.

Only joking. Use AVG. It sorted out my problem (which was VERY similar to yours)

My problem was that I installed the latest DivX update, which had a LOT of bugs, including a virus. Used AVG, and it sorted everything out. Try it Derry!

No i can help mate i had this the other day!

Restart your computer before the date you pressed this as jackpot says, the restore system! As soon as you have done this download

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=e1605e70-9649-4a87-8532-33d813687a7f

Depending on your operating system download the 7.5mb

This will check your pc/laptop and make any repairs!

What i have found it once malware runs out they wont let you do anything unless you upgrade with their system!

Hope this helps
