Two points, firstly the tournie time is based on the server clock and not your local clock (which may be different) and secondly it has always been the way that you are DQ'd if you are not logged in at draw time - the instructions clearly state to remain logged in for the duration of the tournie.

But you have to be logged in to the game server at draw time and not just logged in to the site and I'm fairly certain that it has always been that way ... perhaps Nick could correct me if I'm wrong but I certainly can't remember it being any other way.
LOL Linfield ... that makes two of us
Edit:
Isn't that more to do with being disconnected during the invite period - as it deals with invites being re-sent?

buddytobud is correct.
You certainly must be logged in when the draw is made, the code deliberately kicks out people that aren't logged in at that point.
Consider a tournament with 65 people, probably there are a few people who have logged out (for whatever reason) since joining. We don't want all the users to have to wait around needlessly, so these logged out users are drawn deliberately as away players for the first ties.
With tournaments being ranked and single match losses applied to forfeits there are fewer drop outs, so maybe this can be looked at, but even if it is changed, you would still have to be online for pretty much the entire tournament time.

shouldn't it take into account if you are browsing?

i think it would be appropriate that if you log out before the draw is made then you are removed from the tournament completely and have no part whatsoever in the draw

I like that idea ... perhaps even going as far to say that tournaments can only be entered via the game server in which case the situation should never arise and presumably would be a far simpler change.

It even caters for those that may have lost connection and been logged off and couldnt log back in before the draw was made and lost points as a result.
Theres no point giving people byes for opponents that werent logged in for the draw. Thats just wasteful

To be honest its fine the way it is.
If you logged in and joined up, then say accidently closed your window then re-opened it before the draw is made, then you will be available for the draw. Which is exactly how it should be.
If you aren't available for the draw then you will be disqualified.
Simple, easy and effective.
