Just been in a tourny semi-final and at a key point of the match the other player timed out and got a random shot. This ended up potting a different colour to what they were aiming at. It would have been a foul in any form of snooker but since the nominating of a colour doesnt exist on this site I suggested they push out as that is what i'd have done in that situation but they cleared up. Just wondering what others would have done?

Same, take what ever luck you are given & run!

i would have taken the luck and cleared, but i would apologise out of manners just like i would for any fluke.

this is the random shot problem that was raised on the pool site (and here as well) many times before. i've been arguing against it for a long time now, but nothing doing... i would take it and clear. everyone gets lucky sometimes

There is a big difference between
1)
fluking a shot in general (say you are snookered and play a wild shot in the hope of hitting the correct ball) and it potting
and
2)
receiving a random shot penalty and it resulting in fluking the green when you were aiming for a brown that you more than likely would have potted.
Number 1 is a pure fluke played with the intention of getting lucky.
Number 2 is a pure fluke but still has the same effect as if the original ball that was being aimed for was potted,
You cant compare it to real snooker. At no stage will a spectator run from the crowd with a cue and smash the cue ball around the table in a random fashion.

Should be given as a foul 4 points. Then you can either carry on from where they were or make them play again.

Time out should just be a straight 4 point foul
None of this wishy washy random rubbish.
This is one of the few times that I and the rules for power snooker agree.

nominate a color would of course be nice, but i dont think it can happen anytime soon and might complicate things a bit too much.
i dont think it's needed to fix the random shot problem.

I think nominating colour would get extremely annoying if it was to be introduced. Ok granted there are certain times when you are snookered and it should be used but the majority of the time it isnt needed. The question is how do you programme it to only be necessary at certain times and is it worth it.
How often does it happen that your opponent is snookered and flukes a pot? Its very rare. You may miss out on 4-7 points but the majority of the time you are back in play anyway and have the chance to clear the table and win the frame.
Nominating colour would take away from the speed of gameplay which in itself is one of the greatest aspects of the game

yep and its impossible to nominate a colour on 5 seconds for instance (10 its possible providing your quick enough).

i agree that it should be 4 point foul and white stays as it is rather than a random cue action which could benefit the player who has the random.
scenario 1 -
opponent needs more than 1 snooker so you purposely do a random shot so unless it puts you in a snooker you have nearly won.
scenario 2 -
opponent has random shot and it pots for them.
probably loads more examples but these are couple of examples on why it should be like real snooker imo.

Random shot penalties are quite amusing, but nobody would miss them if they were taken off
Hint hint.

Personally, I do not see the need to keep the random shot currently in place in most of the games.
I say "most", because in power, as we all know, if you do not take your shot within the allotted time, your opponent receives penalty points and the white stays where it is.
The simple solution would be to apply this logic to the other games. If the position of the white is such, that a pot is not possible, just ask your opponent to play again.

I have played some of the best on this site, and honestly alot of people have fouled to even it up
1 player espicially, he did a random shot potted a red to leave 3 red balls on tablle all open and I was like 15 points infront on a ranked game and he said sorry taped up to a cushon and I went on to clear
But different players have different ideas of what to do I have seen it both ways they either carry on or miss on purpose but it's completly upto them and maybe you should take your luck if you are getting it. If I could hit and hope and keep potting you think I would stop lol
