Ok so at the moment the value of a tournament in TournaPoints is calculated by every participant being worth 20 TournaPoints. This is not dependant on their rank. If a system was put in place where the amount of tournapoints a tournament is worth was generated by the average rank of players in the tournament it would be a fairer system in my opinion.

at the moment a tournament with 20 newbies in it is worth the same as a tournament with the 20 highest ranked players in it

This thread will probably end with spinner telling me it will be too hard to program like most of my suggestions do

It probably has to be some sort of combination of the two systems. It can't be purely ranking average, since a late night tourney with 3 high-ranked players would be worth loads of points.
Gotta figure out some sort of combination of amount of people and average rank...

You could just put groups in ranking systems and rightly so people who play higher ranks should win more points

Maybe:

650-700 - 8 points
701 - 750 12 points
751 - 800 16 Points
801 - 850 20 Points
851 + 24 Points

Even have more for 850+

it would mean though that the higher ranked players would have more of a chance of winning lots of points.

But then again if a lower ranked person wins it would reflect how well they did to win.

If you were to introduce something like you suggest then maybe you should introduce something like number of tournaments won to the stats to show a ratio of points won to tournaments won.

If the system is based purely on ranking average, sure it would. The average dips with a low ranked player, so its points total would come down.

the points per player is done on the average ranking.

So it would be a lower points per player but it would be multiplied by 4 because there are now 4 participant... geddit?

ah ok i see what you mean. i thought you were saying something like if the average is 850, then it's worth x points. if its 800, it's worth less...
