I think there needs to be a more advanced player search available.

My suggestion is to remove the drop down search box, and instead, link "Players" to a page which displays all FunkySnooker players.

From there you can filter the results shown on the page using further options.

You could search for a member alphabetically, by registration date, by last visit, & by post count.

Also instead of having to search for an exact name, it would be nice if for example, I searched "Jack", it showed all players whos usernames contained "Jack".

For further understanding of what I mean, you can check out how my member list works on my own forum here: http://talkgfx.net/memberlist.php

Too much effort to look go filtering everybody.

But there should definitely be a system where you can search for half the name because some names are awkward to spell and to find as a result

Yeh maybe filtering isn't totally necessary.

Or another idea. Show search suggestions whilst you type.

So for example, if I started typing "Jac", a little drop down would appear with all usernames containing "Jac". The usernames could be set out as a hierarchy, with the most popular search results coming first.

Like Google.

Why not the hierarchy?

It would just make the drop down actually have some kind of order to it.

Can just imagine it turning into a popularity contest and people actually being sad enough to search for themselves just to bump themselves up the list!

Any solution to a currently flawed system is a positive step in my book though

Its not really that hard to c+p something into the search box it it?
But would look a bit more proffesional and neater i suppose. The hierarchy thing is a bit pointless as you would have someone clicking there name like 5000 times an hour and dedicating "10,000 page views" to people

Its more for when you dont really know how somebodys name is spelled and you try to search for it. Instead of having to find a thread in a forum to copy it from which defeats the whole purpose of a search really.

The hierarchy doesn't have to be ordered in the way I suggested. There are many ways.

For example, it could just be alphabetical..

Jack_pot's idea is great... I very much support it, it would add functionality to player search.

Also I would like to see player filtering by country, many times I've wanted to see who the Greek players here are, how many of them and to check out their profiles, but currently there's no way to find them.

I like the idea as well. Most important part of it for me is that we don't have to spell the name perfectly anymore.
So I don't care what the change looks like as long as that is implemented.

me too as for example i always spell egotistical wrong without copy and pasting so if i could type ego or egot it would probably come up with his name.

the question as always is...

will the higher ups see this thread and will they think its a good idea?

Well apart from it being one of the things they have to do in order to moderate the forum, lol, I'm sure that Nick looks at and evaluates all ideas. As to whether they think it's a good idea, I see no reason why they shouldn't but as always it is a case of priority, time and resources that will determine whether it is implemented.

Whilst I am in favour of changing the search name function (some good ideas above), filtering by country would have little practical value though: there are currently more members with an unspecified country than those who mention a country ...

And let's not forget, that not everyone is honest about the country on their profile either. So you may get false Greeks too lol

who cares if sad people search themselves!!
If that's what they want to do, then let 'em do it

As long as i can find the name i'm looking for, i don't care how the results are ordered
