The other day I was playing "name removed"(I think that's the username).

It was a arcade tournament match and only the colours were left on the table. As I was about to shoot the green,"name removed" opened the private chatbox and started doing this:

gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

I closed that and then he opened another one and then he did the same thing. All the while my shot clock ran down to zero and I lost my turn and subsequently lost the game.

Surely this is against the rules?

Please don't name and shame on the forum

First of all you shouldnt name and shame a person and second of all don't close the PM because after they do it once they will keep trying

So in the future put them on ignore or leave the PM open then nuthing will be able to pop up and distract you from the game

Or, what you can do is turn off PMs while competing.

Taken from the Help section of the site:

Bad sportsmanship

Players that repeatedly commit offences that are not necessarily against funky snooker rules can be punished as deemed appropriate. This includes private messaging your opponent to put them off.

Repeatedly doing these offences could lead to action being taken against your account.

I would say report them as thats the only way admin will know about them and if they do it to other people then that could lead to action being taken against them as it states there

To be honest, I think naming and shaming should be allowed.
If the offenders are low enough to cheat on an online snooker game, they shouldn't care about what people think, and we deserve to know who's doing what.

Similar to what i wrote on the other cheating thread nicko?

simple solution for me, can't do anything about it in game, so write in the rules something like:

"making no attempt to play a shot out of a snooker is cheating in real life and not tolerated on this site. by employing this tactic you waive your right to protection from naming and shaming. By clicking play you agree that you accept these rules."

Then when someone does it everyone can rip them to shreds on the forum and by pm. It wouldn't be against any rules to do this as they have accepted this treatment by playing the shot . It would also be fun for us players who don't feel the need to use these tactics

with tapping out of snookers replaced by pming.

Yeah exactly!
If they're cheating why protect them?

It's like a small scale copy of when say a murderer comes out of prison and is put in witness protection, nobody wants him there, the people protecting him, the federal agents that put him there or the people after him, and he definitely doesn't deserve to be protected.

I know thats a bit OTT but its sorta the same as this, they dont deserve to be protected.

I think it's a decent solution (adam), but you might have to figure out a way to deal with abuse of the system. If someone doesn't like you, they may post ridiculous crap about you (which may or may not be true). How do we avoid false accusations?

Yes it is, so if it happens use the send complaint button, put them on ignore, and appropriate action will be taken.

Hello again thanks for all the replies! :)

Of course you should name them if they have done something wrong! If someone could scoop so low that they would cheat in an online snooker game then they should have their anonymity privelage rescinded. My problem was that I don't quite remember the username as it was a while back .

Yes a situation could arise where people could make a false acussations but aren't these sorts of things logged?

Yes I am new to the forums but I have played nearly 2000 games in a year and a half :)

Two wrongs, don't make a right and as it stands naming and shaming is as much against the rules as the incident you outlined in your original post.

That aside, there is a mechanism in place to cater for cheaters who are unlikely, by their nature, to that bothered by what people post on the forum whereas innocent members that are falsely accused would be somewhat upset and (as has been the case in the past) be lured into an uncharacteristic argument on the forum resulting in either being banned or having posting rights removed.

true but if someone is new and dont know these things then maybe have a quick word is the best idea.

but on topic ignore is the best option it blocks pms, text and messages from that person.

If you neeed to ignore someone...

go to find player
type in their name
click ignore user

but if they log out before you open pm then you can't put them on ignore

Dont forget, there are different levels of cheating, ie... making 2 accounts and playing "yourself" to get a higher rank. What kind of mentality do you have to have to be as low as this? Disgraceful
