As suggested on funkypool ( http://www.funkypool.com/thread/17231/new-tournament-competition-big-update/26 )
Proposed change:
Speed/micro: 20 per entry
Normal: 40
Marathon: 60

Makes sense that the points are altered, because half the time you can enter a micro tournament which can be completed in minutes, and Power snooker takes a while and you can earn more points from the micro than the hourly scheduled tournament.
A marathon tournament should be as it says, a " marathon " so it should then cost / pay out more for the priviledge, plus it still gives the workers amongst us the chance of coming home and competing for the days event medal rather than check to see that someone else has been on all day and got 3,000 points from 12 tournaments.
Like the change, and would second it!

only thing i can see wrong with it is it will still be about arcade.
maybe could do it like this for snooker...
Arcade/Regular/Original - 20 points per entry
Power/Carom/Random (if random ever returns) - 40 points per entry
then if 8 join power its like 16 arcade and worth same amount of points when the game types get even entries again then put it back to normal.
on pool it works out fine as you suggested as you get even entries in ALL types but snooker is different.

Random should return - then everyone (inc myself) will have to make the effort to play carom in order to get past the "newbie" stage in order to play in the daily event.
Personally i liked the random event, probably lost alot of interest due to everyone having to remove the "newbie" status before being able to play (Which is a good thing) as it does stop players resetting time and time again, so i do agree with the changes.
Back to the points, i agree their should be an increase in certain events/ which in turn will pay out more.

You start getting into using decimals then if you use small numbers.
Most people find it easier to deal with whole numbers instead of decimals.
Thats the only reason I can see.

correct
One thing is though, TournaPoints need to be in multiples of 20 per entry to ensure that there is no fraction amount of points given (of course it could round up / down to nearest point).
So it might be best to choose proportions as dgeneratio said, but doubled:
Speed/micro: 20
Normal: 40
Marathon: 60

Do you not think now that people know if you enter Tournements it is were you get the most ranked or lose the most ranked we still need tournapoints to get people to enter? I don't think we do..

I would prefer them to keep tournapoints for those that care and get rid of the ranked side. I personally think tournaments were much better friendly, and you didn't get loads of people fuming cos they got logged out and lost double points. But if people need an incentive then the new tournapoints suggestion is a good one. I still think different games should be worth different amounts though...

I couldn't agree with this anymore. It will also make people think twice before resetting their stats.
Asides I have never played in one and would love the chance.

The only downside I can see is that Speed is proposed as being of lower value. Whilst I agree that for arcade (and maybe Regular but I'm not sure) this is probably reasonable (with it being a bash 'n' crash affair anyway), I'm not so sure about original because even though there are less games, the speed element adds a little more difficulty which therefore balances it out.
As for reverting to friendly only tournaments, (even though I wasn't keen when ranked tournaments were being proposed) I think that would be an unnecessary retrograde step.

yeah but think how many arcade tournament they are during the day, tons.
for nicks idea to work properly on here we need a revamp like pool had.
http://www.funkypool.com/thread/17746/tournament-schedule-restructure-proposal/1
would have to make types equal to give fair chance for tournapoints...
could be
Hourly -
5 Arcade
4 Power
4 Carom
4 Original
3 Random
4 Regular
30 mins slot could be filled with speed and friendlies
maybe then it will be an overall base rather than arcade
