I seem to remember Nick saying that he was going to look into it for Carom seeing as it is illegal under real Carom rules but I could have just dreamed that.

when i asked him i dont think it will be changed as nick didnt see how it was illegal.

this is silly now, the last 10 re spots have gone against me, its stupid if you clear up 30+ to get it, then you have it against you so much that you actually just leave the game because there is no point in carrying on

Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

There is a simple solution to this problem. Don't let your opponent get so far ahead. If you can tell that its going to end up a draw on the last black, (and really, how hard is it to add up a couple of balls?) play for a snooker. There is no need for a tie then and a re-spot black then.

Well the respot have rarely happened in my matches. Was it random as I recall? Yes I do think its kind of stupid, as it is almost a quarenteed win for the lucky one. Still its not so big of a deal to me.
Just a thought. What if it would be a foul to pot the black straight from the respot? It would make it a lot more realistic, interesting and fair to both players. Of course the rules would be slightly different, but the spirit of snooker better served. Then while making a game you would have a choice whether to use the old rule or the "new rule".

Because then player 1 will place white on brown spot hit the black full on with topspin and then 5 hours of tapping will ensue because very few players, if any, are confident taking a long double on. The respot works in the real game because very few pros can cut a black off the spot in with the white in the D, and a tight table length cut or a tight cut along a cushion is very easy on here, especially in arcade, but no pro (trump excepted ) would attempt those pots. In other words, its much easier to get the black safe in the real game.
I am very much of the opinion that the respot on this game doesn't work. It is as good as a guaranteed win for whoever gets it. However no better solution springs to mind so you are stuck with it . Unless highest break in the frame gets it... hmm . I like the idea that has been mentioned of "lagging", like in carom to determine the break, to see who gets the first shot. Good luck trying Destiny's infamous 'cheat lag' on a table with a pocket in the corner...
Yes I am rambling but it's late and I don't really know what I'm on about...

Players will just find a new 'cheat lag'. I wouldn't mind a lag being introduced for this situation if it was bound by real rules.
Lag Fouls:
(a) The ball crosses into the opponent's half of the table;
(b) The ball fails to contact the foot cushion;
(c) The ball drops into a pocket;
(d) The ball touches the long cushion;
(g) The ball contacts the foot rail more than once.
If both players violate lag rules, the lag is a tie and is replayed.
If you have to hit it straight down the table, there is no cheat lag. That I'd agree to.
Other than that, the respot is a real snooker rule. Most shots on here are easier than in real snooker, so I don't see this being a problem. A frame that is decided by a single black always involves luck anyway.

As has been said above the 're-spot' is a lottery and you have a 50/50 chance of getting the first shot and you should pot the black.
Would it be possible for the game to be programmed to see that the scores are level at the end of the frame and automatically have a re-rack.
I know it's not as per snooker rules but there are several differences already and this option would make it fairer.

That would be a fair way of doing it, but say you are in the arcade speed tournament... there is no way you have time to play another frame.
I agree with seb, a fair lag is the way to do it so there is at least some skill involved. They can introduce the proper lag rules to carom while they are doing it too .
