true but racism is always a ban so admins would boot them then ban them.
19:04 Thu 13 Oct 11 (BST) [Link] Well, assuming 8 mods are each on for an hour a day, that leaves 16 hours where there is no mod on. I don't like that idea. Either mods have to be online more than that (hard ask) or there have to be more mods.
The report person feature is good, but if someone is shouting racist obscenities in the forum with no moderator online to boot them, the system has failed. Exactly we need some one who is on at a late time where all the mods are not mabye 2 or 3 to control chat room ext ..........

you should be on daily if you're a moderator, for at least an hour in total depending on how many other mods there are.

This seems an ideal point at which to remind you all that full details for joining the staff team can be found at the link below:
http://www.funkysnooker.com/help#moderator_apply
Whereas, say, an hour per day per mod does leave a lot of "uncovered" time, there are certain times of the day (early-mid morning W. European time i.e. GMT / GMT+1) where maybe 20-30 members only are online. So few may not justify 24/7 coverage.
If you think the system has failed, please feel free to apply, to help rectify the situation.

well we have 15 members of staff so if each one came on for at least an hour but not on at the same time this would mean 9 hours of no moderation .
On pool there is no moderators on at 3 am in the morning and look how many members of staff they have .The admin's need to think more about time zone and who stays on till like 3am - 4am.

19:11 Thu 13 Oct 11 (BST) [Link] I don't think the system has failed- I was just trying to point out that more moderators wouldn't be a bad thing.
That specific point was a response to damee's comment about the report user feature, which is useless for stopping flagrant violations.

I said at least an hour. 8 mods is plenty I can assure you.
This site doesn't need 24/7 moderation.. It's still very small.
Like I said earlier, I moderate over 8,500 members by myself on a different site and I can manage just fine, so why should things be different for moderators here.

It's great that it works for other sites and I'm not saying we need 24 hours coverage.
But I don't see much in the way of more mods (assuming they're good). Using the example of the obscene racist (usually adam), it would be ideal to have a moderator online to get rid of him.
Forums are well covered by mods, so I'm talking mostly about in-game.

19:25 Thu 13 Oct 11 (BST) [Link] My thoughts exact , when all mods are offline people think it is safe to just rampage the game with swearing , racism and even cheating ranks . We need a mod there to catch them people out and boot them , plus i figured out that also arguing can get you banned from the game

I'm not sure how the report system here works, but surely it saves the chat log if no moderators are online so that it can be reviewed at a later date?
You're never going to be able to prevent arguments and general bad behaviour, and that isn't really what moderating should be about. Moderators should be in place to enforce the rules, just as Police do. You could have 100 moderators, and still there would be people being abusive... That's just what happens online (unfortunately).
If I'm walking along the street and somebody starts being abusive towards me, I'm not going to then ask for a police officer to follow me around in case somebody does it again so that they can take action straight away.

it saves a chat log for admin to review (could be a ticket for that so you know what admin replied?) but yeah admin review and depending on the seriousness they warn, remind, post revoke, boot or ban

19:40 Thu 13 Oct 11 (BST) [Link] No, but you can call the police and they'll be there within 5 minutes (hopefully lol).
More mods wouldn't eradicate all bad behavior, but would increase the likelihood that a mod is around when damee starts his racist chanting in the member's bar.

on jacks site if its anything like my snooker defaults, it does it for you, basically you can write any word you want to censor and it comes up with <removed>.

well jack your site might be different(i have never been jacks site) to this site here we need more moderation because we do and purely the fact that some of the staff don't come on for about a month or 2 that is what we do not need , we need active , reliable and helpful moderators

Love how this thread gets so much banter.
You hardly need a CV to become a mod. Its as simple as picking your nose jeez.
Providing you dont vent a proper opinion or fight a case on this website then you are qualified.
Just like the Gemma_x scenario, everyone thought it was a mistake due to the sheer inactivity.
Common sense applies here really.

I wasn't talking about TalkGFX. I abandoned that a long time ago and it's now full of spam bots.
The forum I currently moderate is www.supportforums.net
