Just Curious to how many people buy a poppy this time of year?
I tend to do so and wear it with pride everything the poppy means is excellent and te reason we are who we are doing what we are doing today is symbolised in this!
Also from what I have read recently, Mcdonalds/BodyShop/Poundland have all banned their staff from wearing the Poppy which if this is true it's an absolute disgrace, should be the other way around people being foreced to Donate that £1 for the poppy not stopping them
Poundland said:
'Poundland is not against colleagues wearing a poppy; however, colleagues are not allowed to wear one on the shop-floor simply as it does not abide by the uniform rules.'
But they are allowed to wear Halloween hates and dress up for that it's an absolute disgrace to the country!

Also would like to point out to Derry, I know it was a touchy subject with the famous people etc
But this is where we show our Faith/respect to the armed forced and what they are/were fighting for.
The Poppy is a great apeal and I just hope in years to come parents are letting their kids buy it as I don't ever want to see this appeal stop it's a great thing to wear on your chest!

You should already know but here's a indepth paragraph from Wiki:
Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the members of their armed forces who have died on duty since the First World War. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918, as the major hostilities of World War I were formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice. (Note that "at the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 a.m.)
The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem In Flanders Fields. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilt in the war.

20:43 Mon 31 Oct 11 (GMT) [Link] I am German, but only went to school here for the first 4 years, so I'm not really in position to say.
It is definitely covered at several points during the school years. However, similar to many other subjects, kids today don't retain things too well lol. There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation (and plain stupidity) among the under- 20's.
However, Germany as a country has reflected intensely in many forms for many years with its past. If you were to sample the over 30's, you would find fairly deep knowledge about that time across the board.
More importantly, anyone who is interested in the story of their grandparents and the two generations above that has to deal with the war. You will be hard-pressed to find a family, where less than five people died directly as a result of the two wars. So in that sense, a lot of Germans are very aware of the past.

Couldn't agree more.
I wear my poppy in my shop every day with pride. I personally will not stop any of my staff wearing one. It's a joke that some companies have.
