Putting on ingore is a bad idea, there just going to do it next game, and all through the game your inbut you cant see them
if they do it, they should be punished, not just left swearing because you cant see them.
what about taking there speaking for like 24 hours for so many swear words or something like that
atleast they will be punished in a way they might learn from it

-Booting is good, mods should also be able to ban, I agree

-What training would they need? Here is the ban button, here is the boot button. You have passed your training.

i think if someone gets a complaint sent against them more than 5 times etc they should get banned until something is sorted about it....
like so for instance if 5 different ppl report the oe person for no doubt the same things it automatically blocks them.

Booting is pointless if mods can ban.
And if my suggestions were to be implemented, then they'd need to be trained in order to get familiar with the new system that would be in place.

That would be difficult to do. To code a system which can read each complaint, and determine whether or not each complaint is for a similar or the same reason would be a nightmare.

I couldn't disagree more. I honestly don't see why mods shouldn't be able to permanently ban members.. That's what they should be here for! They should be able to ban any member for as long as they see fit.. If the member in question feels the ban was too harsh, then they can contact an Admin and raise their concerns with them..
So anyway to sum up.. My suggestions:
- Remove booting, and allow moderators to ban.
- Implement an actual warning system.
- Implement an actual banning system for the moderators.
- Implement a proper real time report system, rather than just utilizing the current chat system for reports.
- Give the mods some basic training.
I don't see that you are disagreeing with me at all you are just extending an idea even further. We both want a new workable system in place and you appear to have more experience in internet forums than I do which is helpful.
Having read you post I think your idea would work very well but, I believe it still comes down to consistency so, therefore training would be necessary. Having spent many years involved with training, I don't see that it would poses that much of a problem.
Edit: To tidy up a bit

I meant I disagree on the fact that you said mods should be able to boot for up to a week, whereas I think the whole "booting" idea should be scrapped.

Oh I see, I use the term somewhat interchangeably it could be suspend, boot, ban, remove from site, possibly others.
I believe this thread has brought forth so very useful and constructive debate and hopefully some of it may be taken on board and maybe even implemented.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Hardly any suggestions are even looked at by Admins never mind considered.

I always go back to 1 time a certain player said to me
'Go Have s** with your dead family'
I reported him and the Admins turned around and said in these words:
'There are more ways of punishing somebody other than banning'
So you can say that and be fine i'm guessing, as this player never got banned for it.
----------------------------
Also to add to some of Jacks ideas,
I used to be a Moderator on the old zone.com which had about 60,000 active members daily so it was huge owned by Microsoft at first anyways...
We had the power to Boot anything upto 24 hours
Silence members for upto 36 hours
There was always a active Admin and if we said 'Such a person need be banned' They didn't question it they took our judgment as you trust the people they set to do the role.
If you became the next level of Moderator you could ban accounts for upto a week
But been a Mod on both sites theirs was alot more complex and all Mods seemed to be fair across the board!
Now been a Mod on Yahoo was stupid it was alot like on here, 1 member is a mate so he can swear the other isn't he gets booted etc.

That is something we are both definitely in agreement on

Re: boot vs ban. Isn't a boot just a short ban (of a few hours for example)?
Or are you suggesting that for any rule violation the player should be fully banned immediately??

basically ive been banned before for 6 months, want my advice from it.. dont break the rules, and read them enough for you to remember them off your heart lol

I'm pretty sure a ban means that the member can no longer have access to their account until the ban ends. Whereas a boot simply kicks them out of the game, and not the rest of the site.
Or are you suggesting that for any rule violation the player should be fully banned immediately??
Absolutely not. I'm suggesting that;
1. Booting is removed.
2. Moderators have the ability to ban just as Admins can.
3. A better set of guidelines are put in place in regards to what rule violation will receive what punishment.
Read my posts throughout this thread and you might get a better understanding of what I mean.

I did, all of it. And good point about boot vs ban.
Although I don't see much of a practical difference. A lot of members are concerned about in-game abuse, since that's harder to track than the obvious forum posts. A boot removes the violator quickly and gives them time to calm down or go away. A boot fulfills the objective of removing an unwanted player, doesn't it?
I agree with the rest of your stuff though.

A boot does do that yeh, but the idea is that if someone has done something to warrant a boot, preventing them from playing the game, then why should they still have access to the rest of the site? If there was just a ban, it would be plain and simple... Be abusive/offensive etc.. and you won't be allowed to access the site for however long.
It would just be so much easier and effective, particularly if moderators have the power to dish out bans.
