I played this newbie because previous threads said you cant lose as many points as if you were playing a "non-newbie" - how come i lost the same amount of points as i would have playing a "non-newbie" with the same rank?

The points you lose tend towards the normal amount the more games the newbie has played, so you would lose more against a newbie on 29/30 games than one on the same rank with 2/30 games. Having seen his rank, I can assume they must have played quite a few games towards losing their newbie status so that will be the reason.

Also looks like the guy is using a new account (seems ironic that there is another account on here "the_1_n_only") so he might be pretty good without playing many games on his new account.
