Completely agree with this. This guy deserves to be arrested, and before I watched this, I had no idea that this was even going on. This is definitely something that needs to happen.

See, I think we should not intervine with other Countries we get ourselfs into enough trouble and enough war and enough British Soldiers die for other peoples wars! (Where ever America seem to go we have to follow!)
I completly agree with the fact he should be arrested just give him death row even that is to respectful for him though! How can somebody treat people in that way? You got a little kid saying he'd rather be dead it's a disgreace and he's got 1,000's of people all in fear let's hope it all come to an end and let them live with their life.

Just watched the video after my house mate basically bullied me into it!
Not sure how I feel about it to be honest, think anybody who is really interested in helping needs to do more reading into it first.
From what I gather this charity has had a lot of criticism today and for the past 6 years.
Only 31% of your money will go to Uganda, and a lot of that will go to the Ugandan government, and other organisations who themselves use r@pe and use child soldiers as weapons of war. The Ugandan government also punish homosexuality via the death penalty. Do you really want to be donating money to them?
From what I gather Kony has been largely inactive for many years now too. Arresting him may make the situation even more volatile. If people think Ugandas problems will go away with Kony they are deluded.
I like the idea of making him famous, and letting the wider world know of him, but I don't think this group necessarily has all the answers.
It may be causing more trouble than good. Think I'll do some reading tomorrow before making my mind up but at least Kony is in the public domain now, and people are aware of the suffering that exists.
It isn't just Uganda where this sort of thing happens. Africa is blighted by civil war and poverty, pirates and gangs.
Through out the world children are living in fear, that goes for this country too. The biggest reason being that nobody knows about it, and often sadly not enough people want to know.

To be honest, this has been mullering my facebook. I am being bombarded more so with KONY 2012 that Brighton Club Promoters! And that is saying something!
I say everytime something like this happens, what are you all achieving? On facebook? People think that changing their display picture to a cartoon character was preventing child abuse? It made people feel they were contributing in preventing it... when really they are doing nothing.
I admit, I do nothing for them. But I dont insult it by changing my picture to Bugs Bunny. Or insult it by posting it. There is nothing that all my facebook friends could do combined to prevent Kony killing, raping and abducting children.
Has anyone seen what the civilians of Libya done to the British war heros graves? After we had saved their country from another Kony. Have you seen how Afganistan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Korea and Israel hate Britain and the USA becauce WE interferr.
We have protesters against our troops in Iraq, Afganistan... demanding them home... you do realise that by populating the idea of KONY 2012, you are sending our troops to Uganda?
The USA have already sent 100 Americans into Uganda to help arrest Kony. I bet 100 dont come back.

I completey agree Derry.
For some reason we can not keep our noses out we have to be there so we can say 'We helped' but we get forced into it by America as for some reason we can not say not to them, our Troops are better trained we have the best RAF/Naivy in the world but we take orders of a different County???
And also as mentioned earlier, I've read a considerable bit about all of this now and if you do make Kony famous and he's arrested i'm sure the situation will drematically increase! We can not stop R@pe,Child abuse abduction slaughter or anything in these countires. Firstly they do not welcome us there so it's not like we will get their support of the goverment and secondly if we start of in Uganda I guarantee we will end up in every 3rd world Country that is having this same problem causing Hundreds/Thousands of soldiers risking their lifes for a war that is not ours.
By all means let the Uganda Goverment solve this problem on their own but they should not have an outside influance they don't need it! We help people we save their lives and we get re-paid by been disrespeacted they disgrace the honour of our dead!
I really think this is 1 war we need to take a step back from and let them deal with it!
Good Luck to the 100 Soldiers that are already deployed!

I think the whole way they have gone about "Make Kony famous" is actually quite comical as well.
"Famous" to most people in this day and age of materialistic people, this is a word of value to make someone meaningful. Its a word for ambition of becoming idolised, wealthy and known. By making Kony known, how many more rebels will fight for his cause? Do they think every person in the world will disagree with him?
What happens if now other forces join him because they want to 'fight the British' 'kill America' for taking all their countries finances and resources.
How many Africans dispise us. As a contineent in Europe we are hated, frowned upon.
When Kony is arrested < which actually means murdered > who is going to take over? There is always someone willing to take the lead. This guy has an army of people, if he was hated by his people wouldnt they just kill him theirselves?
Such narrow mindedness and just because we think its bad, the campaign, doesnt mean it is bad. Who is to judge wrong and right? How can us sending men to kill all these people be right? How can our troops/Americas troops killing all these formerly sexually assulted, abused, neglected, tortured, brainwashed, manipulated, traumatised abducted children be justified?
You think the army of these children are going to let us just whisk him away to jail? Hah? So we are killing the people we are trying to save?
Okay...(Y)

Links for those interested in international efforts and policy towards the LRA:
US policy: http://www.state.gov/p/af/rls/fs/2012/183487.htm
Interview with William Hague June 2011, where he addresses UK policy towards the LRA (bottom): http://ukinuganda.fco.gov.uk/en/news/?view=News&id=616376382
I have not watched the video because I've done extensive work on the LRA. The issue has been around for 20+ years and obviously has no short-term solutions.
About UK policy- as you can see from the interview, Hague clearly says that military intervention is not an option for the UK- simple as that.
The "100 soldiers" deployed by the US are military advisers as far as I know. They provide logistical and advisory support to the militaries involved- Uganda, Chad, South Sudan etc. Those governments definitely do need the help!
The strategy is a combination of taking out the leadership of the LRA, implementing effective DDR programs (over 12,000 LRA soldiers have been reintegrated), and assisting wider development in the region. The LRA soldiers are not fundamentalists driven by a cause- most of them are there because it makes them wealthy and they have nowhere else to go with no job prospects.
Military intervention is not really on the table, but we can't pretend this isn't happening..

Having said that, the LRA is far less powerful than it once was, so I'm surprised this has caught on at this scale.

Yeah they are military advisers, they help strategically, provide training and equipment. They do not go to the battle field so to speak.
I think it is great that Kony will be famous. It challenges peoples perceptions of what fame is. If more evil men and women were made famous their crimes would be far harder to commit. It is like Crime Watch on a much grander, international scale.
We are basically living in a social network era, and of course it all helps, just by raising awareness, the fact that he is all over Twitter, Facebook, etc... is of course helping.
Those in power in America are no different to those in power in Uganda in that they want to remain in power and will work very hard to ensure they do.
If this issue becomes important enough to enough people then it will influence the American ruling elite. They are in election season over there, if they think they can get votes off the back of this campaign then they make promises. At the very least America now knows that people care, and as a result they will leave those 100 soldiers in Uganda for a while longer yet I imagine, whereas prior to the video they were probably looking at moving them on elsewhere.
By the looks of it Kony is largely inactive now, partly as a result of this groups work. They should be applauded for that.

They were only deployed in October actually. The LRA is listed as terrorist organization, so the US is quite interested in the issue. The fact that advisers are there is already a sign of its importance!
The campaign itself- regardless of whether the organization is good or effective or not, I don't see how raising awareness is ever a bad thing.

I believe this is the first time in American history where they have deployed soldiers into a country which has zero public safety or economic interests.
17:51 Thu 8 Mar 12 (GMT) [Link]
How about the US-led UN mission in Somalia 1992? The purpose there was to provide a safe environment for humanitarian support operations as a result of the famine that killed 300,000.
Also depends on how far you're willing to go with the interpretation of security or economic interests.
Any 'terrorist' organization is a theoretical threat to US security as a recruiting and training ground for terrorists, just like Al-Qaeda in Iraq was or Al-Shabaab in Somalia is.
Regional displacement of refugees is an issue for US economic interests. When you have hundreds of thousands of refugees spilling across borders, it becomes a threat to economic activity and destabilizes the region. The US has economic and security interests in several of the neighboring states as well as Uganda itself.

We can prove it's for this reason tho, how do we know he's not inactive just so he can hit them with 1 big bang?
And as mentioned before there's always gonig be somebody else who wants to take the lead for him to have his own Army he's obviously worshipped.
And Seb you read to much

lol this was one of my areas of work in the Foreign Office. I had no choice.
The LRA was much more active and dangerous 10 years ago. They are still responsible for quite a bit of suffering in the region, but they're happy as long as they're not threatened and money keeps flowing in.
Taking out the leadership is a big blow to any organization. I don't think he is worshipped at all. They are not fundamentalists, they just want to profit! If they see an opportunity to make money elsewhere, they will take it. DDR efforts have removed many thousand LRA soldiers of the years. However, as long as there are no good job prospects, the fighters will choose to stay in this business. That's what it is for them- a way to profit.

Its also very strange how the ICC along with many other world wide security firms all placed Kony as the number 1 threat. With Sadame Hussain being 25th? Bin Laden 17th? So if Kony is number one... surely he should of been killed off and "dumped to sea" like the rest of them.
Also worry if we were bascially brainwashed into thinking Sadame and Laden were the children of the Devil and Hitler....
Yet there are 20 other people who are rated higher on the "bad guy list".
I disagree with all the sensible approaches being taken. There is always some sort of excuse somewhere. People on the news using all these unheard terms so loosely as if everyone should understand.
Like the ref in the football yesterday, they said "blah blah mandatory section 63A code source"... all he needed to say "Its illegal to kick the ball without your boot on.
Basically, if they want him 'arrested' then they could have done it years ago.
Everyone is now protesting... but we only killed Sadame and Bin Laden, because we wanted their oil amongst other things. Ironically, oil and petrol prices have gone up in England.
The goverments are businesses nowadays. They really dont give a monkeys arrse about Kony. He is a little bug that could be squished at any point...

Off topic...
Sadam and Bin Laden - The Bogeymen.
Remember Sadams Weapons of Mass Destruction? Lmao. Basically we wanted his oil, and he stopped co-operating with the US.
There is a lot of money to be made from oil. There is a lot of money to be made in destroying things then building them back up again. There is also a lot of money to be made in supplying weapons. There is a lot of money to be made from war (in the middle east)
On the other hand, you have people like Mugabe, whos atrocities are far worse than that of Sudam Hussein continuing to kill his own people at will.
Call me a cynic but I'm not sure we in England and the USA are the good guys we make ourselves out to be, to be honest.
In England you are more likely to die of a peanut allergy than an act of terrorism. Yet throughout the media they have us living in fear of a whole race of people. Very sad that.
