when u get to a certain height u gain like 0.1 and rubbish like that.. so probably impossible..lol

yep impossible due to edge modification when you get to virtuoso, when you get 900+ the rank system takes a percentage of the rank you should win away, when you get to 970s etc you will notice you may only get 0.1 from a 600 and lose around 8 (if not a tournie), on the old system ste_efc had 0.0 lots of times at 990 rank.

Is it actually impossible though or just highly unlikely?

Ste got 996.9? something like that and that he didn't lose for like 80 games playing all kinds of ranks so unless your playing somebody 990 aswel the points you make are extremly unlikly to take you above 1,000 go from 996 - 1000 you will need to win about 70/100 games playing people at average 800 rank without losing 1 which is extremly unlikely
I'm guessing it is possible 2 people both on 999 and 1 wins will take them above 1,000

I think it was determined in past threads that it was mathematically impossible due to the edge modification. Not sure though.

I'll let you know in a few days whether it's possible or not

I have a suspicion that given enough players it is possible to get to 1000 in orig with the 8x bonus in tournaments, but without the actual edge modification formula I can't work it out. The question is, if two people on 999.9 played each other in orig tournament, is the multiplier for edge modification less than 0.00625? If so, then it is impossible, if it is greater, then it is possible.

Just try and do it then you know if it's possible or not

nah blutch proved it is impossible on an old thread, adam your tournie argument tournament rank didn't get doubled but normal rank got halved, ranking is very hard now compared to when ste was 996 and even back then reason it was changed was when when 2 virts faced each other a draw they both would lose rank.

hmm looks like its not downloadable now.
I still want to see the formula haha.

you can use buddytobuds ranking calculator to check providing its up to date
but looking at graph it would be 0.0 for 100% edge modification

His proof is invalid anyway looking at the thread as that is assuming linear or quadratic edge modification, whereas the current help page says that it is roughly exponential. This is a big difference as a quadratic tends to 0 quicker than an exponential.

i thought it was impossible to go above 1000 , as it is the equivalent of 100%
which means you would lose points , even if you win the game
which is how i read the calculation

Yes im sure it is impossible.. especially with the rank system these days.. i mean last year when i was 960 in Arcade i was barely getting any rank off of 800s. its a struggle to break into the top 10 now
But facing it.. if you got to to 980+ you won be getting much more than 0.1 of 800s etc
