had a look and i like both ideas adams idea would be good but the further you are away from the blue spot the smaller the cursor should be so if your on baulk cushion and you have a shot past blue spot the cursor goes small.
this also helps for respotted blacks as i know people was complaining about those.
would also be good if your on the cushion you can only apply any sort of top spin to the shot and with the cursor shrinking if anyone can find that baulk cushion your the favourite.
but one basic thing this game is lacking is after the coin toss (50-50 on here), in real life you get to choose who breaks not the case here.
this would bring an element of safety (not tip tap but actual safety play) to the game and makes positional shots even more crucial

lately ive tried dragging spin and its affected where the white ball goes, for example to really slow white down but still do top spin, drag the white down 3 times then full top once. I have also done a stun run through into the pack of reds and when it appears to stick in reds a little top spin is added to break through.
for snookers if you practice for example when your snookered from break in orig from green side, ive tried putting top left on (drag once), then full right spin (or close to it) this then hits first cushion straight and on 2nd cushion the right spin is applied to go round the angles into back of pack.
clicking spin i couldn't see this affect so try dragging it for more effect
The idea for spin depending on distance from the cushion would be very difficult to implement. This is simply because, while playing perpendicular to the cushion, the spin you could place on the ball is affected by the distance to the cushion, however if playing parallel to the cushion, you can play as much top or bottom as you like, but only one side is possible.

In answer to your cursor idea, a smaller cursor is more accurate, a huge cursor would be much harder to use .

either way this would also stop leaving long yellows, e.g. people tend to do it lazy way and tap black in to leave long yellow but if the cursor gets bigger or shrink whichever then players would be forced to play towards the blue spot which normally needs reverse side (the idea only applies in Original (maybe Regular too, not Arcade as arcade should be quickfire games)).
i think nicks wanted to get this site as close to real game as possible this would be a big step to get there.

I think it would be the best thing that could happen to this site, it would be a great step in the right direction.
Yes the game would be much more challenging but that's exactly what's needed, I love to play snooker on my ps because for example, lets say you have left hand spin on the cue ball, if you aim on the red/colour ball then its not going to hit directly where you would like, exactly the same in real life.
Just watching the snooker over the last couple of days has really made me hope that this, if possible could be put in place, having to play perfect positioning, perfect spin ect, it does annoy me a bit that any shot on this game is possible.
Also another suggestion that is bugging me at the moment, the speed of the tables (reg, orig and power) I think this has been mentioned before but in the real game, with skill of course you are able to generate a lot more power when striking the cue ball, does anyone else find that these tables are to slow?

yeah, i find if i drag to topspin it speeds it up a touch, same with backspin and slowing white down

Yep thats realistic as backspin makes the ball drag on the table due to friction, therefore it slows down. Topspin also does go faster simply because hitting the ball with topspin, like in tennis with Nadal especially, increases the number of revs per second and therefore the ball is rolling more and travelling a greater distance.
Thats the lesson for today folks.

definately need the cushion shots to be more realistic and challenging. Cos at the moment i don't try and keep away from the cushion and will make breaks more nice to watch. Also swerve shots would be good. And it's a shame baulk end safety battles aren't more common and would be good if long pots were more difficult making safeties more justifiable.

just thought of something i think these rules would be possible to implement.
3 Misses - if you can see both sides of red and you foul 3 times in a row you lose the frame
Free Ball - if opponent fouls in a position where you cannot see both sides of red then you will get a free ball this will then make the magical 155 possible and would help when needing snookers
Foul and a Miss - i know people say you need a referee but as they always call a miss (except snookers required stage) these days, i think if you get within a ball or 2 width then shouldn't be considered a miss but anymore than that then miss should be called and then an option would appear if you want them to retake from there, put them back or take it yourself
Re Rack (unavailable in tournaments, carom and power snooker) - could have a re rack button and if both people press at anytime then balls will be re racked and can start again
Respotted Black - make it harder to pot then you have to risk playing safe
then all ideas above but i don't think swerve is possible
feedback?

15:08 Tue 8 May 12 (BST) [Link] I don't like that. It's way too difficult to keep the black safe, since you can pot from almost anywhere on the table. It's not like real snooker, where you can just keep them at opposite ends and they're impossible to pot.
This would make winning the "coin toss" a disadvantage.

fair enough but i meant for ultimate orig only where pots would be a lot harder but you should get to choose if to play first or second instead of randomiser choosing
what about others
