Please note: I know this is as likely to get implemented as I am to win the lottery. I also know it might not even be possible to program.
Here's the ideas, which make up the mode (not all my own):-
1) A small degree of inaccuracy when taking a shot.
This is the part which makes more realistic safety exchanges and break building possible (compared to the real game).
When looking at the image below, when the shot is played the white ball will travel randomly between the blue lines (in a straight line (obviously)). Note: If implemented it may need to be more accurate than pictured.
This should then create the inaccuracy seen in the real game:-
a) Pots where the white is close to the object ball will always be potable.
b) Full ball shots even at long range will carry an extremely high success ratio.
c) Medium range tight cuts and long half ball pots will carry a realistic pot success rate.
Possibly also increase the inaccuracy dependent on amount of spin applied.
2) Spin area on white limited depending on distance from cushion.
This will make playing from the bulk cushion more difficult as you will be forced to play with top spin.
It will also make break building much more challenging.
3) More realistic power
At the moment the power is way short of how hard you can hit the white in the real game.

Also I doubt this would be popular with many people.
But wouldn't it be great to see Seb, adam and other top playes miss a shot occasionally

Actually on topic...
It does sound a great idea, if it could be implemented. As you stated though, it just depends if it can or not.
Love the idea of only being able to put front on the white when it lies right upto the cushion. More realistic feel to it.

Na, that's were your wrong...
James and Seb can still see the thread, just wont be able to reply for a while.
As for the idea, i think it's awesome. Ask anyone that know's me well. I find original to be the best, most challenging game type on here. It's hard enough as it is for most. But, to make it more realistic in some aspects will give the robots more of a challenge.
Also, for those who would love a more realistic game type... it would suit them perfectly.

If I could afford a big enough house I would have done years ago

The idea for spin depending on distance from the cushion would be very difficult to implement. This is simply because, while playing perpendicular to the cushion, the spin you could place on the ball is affected by the distance to the cushion, however if playing parallel to the cushion, you can play as much top or bottom as you like, but only one side is possible. Consequently, the available spin would have to change as you rotated the cue round... this I can imagine is rather difficult to do! Also, it would have to notice if the ball was in the jaws as then you can hit the bottom of the ball.
It would be nice to make it harder to pot long to encourage people to play for position properly, unlike now where even many top players play just to be able to get to the potting angle. However, adding a random element removes some of the skill from the game, and shots that should be 99% like straight black to corner would reduce. Whether a ball drops or not should never be down to luck in my opinion. I prefer the method I suggested on another thread where the cursor can only be placed within a certain radius of the cue ball, so close range shots should still be almost guaranteed pots, but anything more than half the table would require very fine accuracy to pot regularly.
Fully with you on the power thing, the tables we have are painfully slow compared to reality! Would be much more challenging to have a pro-speed table.

The only trouble with the cursor only be placed within a certain radius of the cue ball is that it could be so easily overcome with cursor mods within the OS. Otherwise id tend to agree.
I know what you mean about not leaving it to luck, but the luck would be much like the real game. Its no coincidence that ppl refer to pot difficulty with success %'s. The challenge would be to make the % reflect Ronnie's game on top form .
To win consistently you would have to decline difficult pots which the pro's wouldn't risk in real life in favour for safety shots.

I just fear it would make pots along the cushion very difficult from anywhere as the aiming is so precise. The fact that cursor positions aren't continuous makes them hard enough as it is!

At tight angles they would be difficult, if nearly full ball pots they would still be easier than in real life.
Pots along the cushions are very tough in real life because there is little of the pocket to aim at. See pros miss them all the time (unless they are close to the object ball and playing a relatively straight pot) don't we

The top pros now seem to make them quite regularly from what I see!

not from tight angles or at distance though?
19:30 Sun 22 Apr 12 (BST) [Link]
nope but from a bit of angle, I think this would make it just too hard.
