Having trouble getting GIFS images to work in the About Me?

Actually, I don't even know whether these work on this site? I've just copied and pasted the address into the image box when editing profile and when I save it just shows a small box with 'Image posted' and a red X

If it's showing a red x, that means it's a broken image, OR, it means your browser thinks it's a broken image. Check whether the link is typed out correctly, and if it is, try clearing your browsing data.

If it still won't work post a link to the image here.

Am I right in saying that you don't have to save the image or anything? just paste the address which appears at the top once you've clicked on it from a search engine image gallery?

All you need to do is get the link, paste it in, and make sure it's wrapped in image tags. Or you can click the "Image" button, paste the link into there, and hit OK.
