Suggestions on game enhancements:
1. When tucked up against the cusion, or a ball directly behind cue ball, only have the ability to put on top spin (as per real life !)
2. Have to nominate every colour ball.
I've had situations where opponent was snookered on every colour, they obviously went to hit say the greem, but hit the brown instead, but not counted as a foul as they did hit a colour, not the one intended. Again, in real life, one would normally nominate a colour if its not clear which colour was the target.

I'd find this very boring.
This game is a 2d game for fun, this isn't the crucible lmao

1. Depends which way you are facing, if you play along the cushion then you can play backspin but not one side, so the available spin would have to change as you moved the cue... very hard to code!
2. Time limit is the issue, in a 10s game once you nominate the ball you hsve about 3/4s left for spin and shot.

I'd like to see both of these put in but they just don't suit this game. For this kind of realism you're better looking at 3D snooker games.

i would say 5 sec is more of a problem but i have known players shoot in 3 sec before so clicking shouldn't be a problem in 10 sec unless you need to think about your shot which i feel you should be able to use one extension per frame where you can start the timer over to think about your shot, would use the same amount of time as the game room (i.e. if your room is 90 seconds this extension will give you another 90 seconds to shoot, 10 then its 10, 20 and 20, 40 and 40 etc).
always said you can achieve nomination by clicking on the ball, would be less flukes mind you there isn't many flukes in snooker

i have an idea :)... how about linking with facebook and wen u make a half cent, cent or tourny win or anything like that it automatically sends it to your facebook as a status. could maybe help bring in more users and advertise funkysnooker better

You can do that if you go to events and link it..

Not that hard to code in all honesty. You just have to set up some parameters for the angle of the cue depending on which way it's facing in relation to which cushion the ball is against, and then if the cue angle is outside of those parameters, remove the ability to add top spin.

One effect might be that it will make this game harder, which means that more people will be satisfied playing arcade and even fewer players try the other game types (?)

I'm imagining some sort of cover that goes over the bit of the cue ball that you can't hit. As you rotated the cue round it would have to be changing continuously surely? That can't be so simple to do.

What do you mean by "cover"?
The spin would be restricted and out of your control within the set parameters (when the cue is at an angle where top spin is the only possibility). So if the angle is like this:
Then the spin would automatically be set based on a simple formula which grabs the values of the angle of the cue and the distance that the cue ball is from the cushion. So in theory if the cue ball is within a certain range of the cushion, then you would have no control over the amount of top spin you apply, but you could control the amount of side spin. And if you move the cue out of the "angle restriction zone" then the computer would detect that you're aiming at the ball from an angle at which the cushion plays no part, and would allow you to add whatever spin you wanted.
I don't know how Nick's coded this game but it's clearly got a very well coded structure to it and so I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to do at all.
It'd just mean you'd have to set up a few parameters and there'd need to be real time tracking on the direction the cue is pointed.

The last bit is what I meant, would that not potentially make it lag a bit?
Also, would have to add in a different thing for if the ball was in the jaws of a pocket. Just seems a bit over-complicated. Besides, the formula for the parts of a ball hit-able when its on a cushion is really horrible especially as it would have to take into consideration the shape of a cushion (ie where the top juts out a bit) for shots along the cushion.

There are tons of real time calculations happening all the time and they cause no lag at all. (The power slider for example). And this would only take effect if it detects that the cue ball in near a cushion. As for if it's next to the jaws of a pocket, a couple of "if, else" statements would easily determine that.
I'm not saying it'd be easy to code, but it definitely wouldn't be hard, specially in comparison to a lot of the stuff already implemented on here. I mean Nick coded his own forum for crying out loud... If he can code his own forum software then I'm pretty sure he'd have no trouble what so ever in doing this.

Oh I know, I'm suggesting that the physics would be the hardest bit!

1 That's not quite true, in real snooker it is possible to screw the cueball back when it is against the cushion, only you would have to play a "pique shot" (back end of the cue up in the air). Since that shot is not possible on here, nor is it for a ball to jump off the table, I think the spin should stay the same.
2 No I don't think that's necessary, as Cam justly said it's only a game after all. I don't think it should be that tough to escape from snookers, certainly not in arcade snooker. This is only for fun and you should leave room for a bit of luck here and there.
If there is anything I'd like to see changed, it would be the the free ball-rule. I'd like to see the free ball introduced in this game.
