I have mad many frames where I have put my opponent into a difficult snooker. My opponent then makes no effort to get out of the snooker and puts the cue ball in a position where there is no pot on and a safety shot is very tough.

This is penalised with only a 4 point penalty.

I have then lost the advantage of putting my opponent in a snooker

This is my view is cheating and a free ball should be on offer to the wronged player

Any thoughts ?

This has come up many a time before.

The reason this can't happen is that the computer cannot determine whether the player intentionally fouled, or was a genuine attempt at trying to get out of the snooker, but their mouse lagged, or they just underhit the white.

My opponent then makes no effort to get out of the snooker and puts the cue ball in a position where there is no pot on and a safety shot is very tough.

If there is no pot on, and a tough safety is on.. why not just shove the player back on to the table?

Even if it could determine if a valid shot was played or not, it still wouldn't be a free ball. A free ball is only if you can't hit both sides of a valid ball after a foul...

foul and a miss

I read that at exactly the same time as the referee in the Masters called "foul and a miss" on Ali Carter, spooky!

Now, what we need is a game 'referee', who can be called into a game, pause the timer, has the ability to action-replay a few shots, see's what happened and make the relevant call on how the game proceeds..... there you go Nick, a light bit of coding for you get your fingers round It'll certainly allow many of these situations to be resolved as they should be.

Not sure it can be done when it is such an ambiguous situation as this...

The biggest problem as far as i can see isn't necessarily deciding on whether a free ball should be offered when a foul leaves a player unable to hit both sides of a valid ball, but on the shot afterwards. The rule is that you can't snooker your opponent behind the ball you nominate as the free ball. I feel this would be harder to code?
