Yesterday, in the Northern Ireland Trophy, in his last 16 match against Ali Carter, "The Rocket" Ronnie O'Sullivan hit a 147 break, the seventh of his career. He is now only 1 maximum break away from Hendry's record (eight 147's in his career).
In the same match, he has also broken a new record, by hitting 5 centuries in 5 winning frames; it's the first time it happens in a best-of-9 match.
All his fans (including me!) will be pleased with the incredible good form Ronnie is showing at the moment, proving once again he is still one of the very best snooker players in the world.
Congratulations, Ronnie!

Hmm... I carn't believe i missed that!, Are the matches on T.V anywhere bluth?, Will have to watch him.
I think he will reach Stephen Hendrys record and then go on to beat the record, Against Hendy.
That bloke is just superb to watch, It makes me laugh when i watch him because the shots he takes are just unreal and he makes them look so easy, And even if they are like 9/10 you miss he get's annoyed when he does miss!. So that just proves his confidence in himself.
Anyon think he will win the Snooker championship next year?, I personaly think if he continues this form he will cruise it, Even if there are players that are in form also, The lad is unstoppable in this shape.
CMON Ronnie do it for me
EDIT: This is what Ronni O'sullivan said after the match *Shocked smiley*
"I'm not really interested in records. I've got nothing positive to say though, when I'm like that I might as well say nothing.
"I can't face practising at the moment because I'm playing rubbish. It was all right. It's nice to get 147s, it's a good feeling.
I carn't face practicing bcause i'm playing rubbish?!!!, Getting five consecutive centuries is rubbish?!

07:58 Fri 9 Nov 07 (GMT) [Link] You can watch most matches on Eurosport or Eurosport2. Usually all matches are on Eurosport, but because of the tennis, many are moved to Eurosport2... I don't have Eurosport2, so I can't see Ronnie play tonight against O'Brien
The main problem with Ronnie is that he's totally unreliable, he's capable to win anything, but you can never be sure he will. Therefore I wouldn't do any prognostic about the tournament winners... And as we could see with Dale and Fu this year, we can expect any surprises in all tournaments!

Well recently I watched him in the Grand Prix and I've got to say at times Ronnie showed signs of the game against Hendry where he walked out. ( The final against Fu) and I do agree that he can be unrealiable and I often wonder which Ronnie will turn up.
Positively, I love the way he plays, pulls of some great shots and I like the attacking style he adopts. I've not watched the latest Ireland trophy but if he's knocked in a 147 , he must be in great form!
To that interview that R_R posted ^^ , that made me laugh, what a character O'Sullivan is
Look forward to the Snooker Championship next year!

i dont like ronni osulivan he makes the game look so easy, i try and do it and it goes wrong also i like watching the balls rattle in the pocket and with ronni they just fly in, id much rather watch a tactical frame that goes down to the wire than somebody knocking in 100s all the time. Having said this he is still an amazing player!!

Anyway, Ronnie's good form has ended, as he has been beaten 5-2 by O'Brien.
Snooker is really becoming more and more unpredictable...
Anyway, good luck to the semi-finalists (Maguire, Murphy, O'Brien and Allen), and still congrats for Ronnie's 147!

Unpredictable the better I say!
Yep, I'm also a fan of Ronnie and his attitude to snooker is all wrong in my view. As someone said he is unreliable and I don't expect him to win anything at tournaments simply because of that.
But well done to him and shame he's been knocked out but I'm sure there is still more great things to come from him.

Cool! I remember reading in a pot black annual about 20 years ago that the actual highest break under the rules at that time was 154 (foul black to start break).
Never heard of a break exceeding 147 that way before though.

yup sean murphy did it!! so therefore 147 should no longer be called a maximum!!

Tony Drago also had a 149 break in 1998.
I've never heard about this 154 break, have you any reference to read about it spinner? *very interested*

actually 155 is the maximum possible break
I'm not sure if it has been achieved before though, But if someone commits a foul and you are nable to see BOTH sides of the red then that allows the oher player to have a free ball, Meaning they can pot any colour on the table as a substitute red, then obviously if they pot the black that gives them eight with a remaining 147 left. They just have to get all rd and black to achieve the 'highly unlikely maximum' hehe

11:35 Mon 12 Nov 07 (GMT) [Link] Jamie Cope is known to have done it in a practice match. I've never heard of anyone else having done it.

"Fastest 147 breaks
The five fastest 147s have been made by Ronnie O'Sullivan. The times of the three fastest are
1997: 5 minutes 20 seconds
2003: 6 minutes 30 seconds
2001: 6 minutes 36 seconds
James Wattana cleared in 7 minutes 9 seconds in 1992.
In professional tournaments, there is usually a substantial prize awarded to any player achieving a 147 break. As an extreme case, Ronnie O'Sullivan's 1997 maximum earned him £165,000 – or £515 per second"
Wow, i think anyone would love to earn £515 per second
