Ah well the maximum break isn't 155 but 162 !!!
A break of 162 is possible by the occurrence of fouls and a re-spotted black finish.

How can a respotted black occur during a break?

You may be confused with a rack total maybe, The maximum break completely possible in one visit is infact 155.... with the freeball... which means, as spinner said, the '162' can not be possible as there is no way the black ball can be respotted...

(confused!)

It is possible:

Snookerplayer2 (S2) plays 21 fouls on the black, one foul on the blue, and one on the green
--> 21 * 7 + 5 + 3 = 155
so the score is S1:155 - S2:0
Now S2 can play a 155 break (free ball (black-black) and clear the table up)
Score is now 155-155

The black is respotted and s2 makes a 162 break

If someone can manage that in real life, he 'll get my acount and password :p

Excellent!

Edit - apart from the fact a foul on the green at that stage would be 4 points

21 FoB's followed by two normal fouls would do though...

yes, but when the black ball is respotted it is seperate from the break... because the other player gets the respot.

I confirm that the maximum break is 155 and not 162. If the last black of a 155 break was to be respotted, it would mean there has been a foul on it, therefore the break would have ended at 148!

This 162 break myth is also mentioned here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highest_snooker_break and they also tell it's not right.

The respot in the 162 scenario is not because of a foul, but because of the game being tied after the final black is potted. However as the rules state the break to be over before the coin toss, the highest possible is indeed 155.

Problem is he's too inconsistent. One minute he's incredible, next thing you know he's missing everything and he sits there looking like he wants to slit his wrists.

But when he's playing his best, he's the best there has ever been.

And one more! He really seems in good form this season!

He has now equalled Hendry's record of 8 official maximum breaks. And as this happened in a deciding frame, he also equalled another of Hendry's records, they are now 2 to have made 1 in a deciding frame.

Whatever consistent/reliable he is, the public always wants a nice show, and Ronnie always gives it to them.

Congrats Ronnie!

Yes i watched that game in amazement, Honestly i was obviously pleased for him to get the 147, But it's also good to see that he doesn't just want to go out and pot pot pot (although it is good to watch) as he showed tonight he is also one of the best tactical players in the game, But his 147 as steve davis said was absolutely incredible.

Cmon ronni, Do me proud against Stephen Maguire!

Thanks osullivanr, it's nice to have the possibility to watch it again and again

I personally think the best shots of the break are:
- the 5th red along the cushion (3:05)
- the positioning for the 14th red (at 6:50)

Also note that he has made 2 maximum breaks in only 37 days! In that he has beaten Stephen Hendry, who had 41 days between 2 maximum breaks, but is still behind John Higgins, with 31 days!

Yeah, I was wondering why we weren't seeing the final's evening session in live tonight... I went on the internet and saw that was because it had already been finished.
An amazing result it is!
