I think the points reuction should happen 24 hours since a players last finished ranking game and a further reduction every subsequent 24 hours. That would be the fairest way to work it out, what with
the different time zones people are playing in etc..

How does it solve the problem..? A player would just keep playing ranking games anyway so i dont see how this is a solution.. :S

I disagree with that.
I think it's an important part of the system that the highly ranked player regularly loses points, even if he keeps playing, so he is obliged to play not only one game per day, but enough games to compensate the points loss.
For example someone has a 990 rank. He needs to compensate 1 point deduction every day if he wants to keep his rank around 990, and it will take him a lot of games to win 1 point.
It would be too easy to pick up one newbie per day, having over 99% chances of winning...

Great idea! You get the daily deduction every 24 hours as normal and you also get a further reduction if you haven't played.
Anyway...

In my view if you want to log in at midnight so that your rank doesn't fall then thats your business, i myself ave never done it but im not going to judge people that do. Its their business what they do and its not hurting anybody. We are still on an even playing field here, as we could all log in at midnight . If theres a little gitch there then to me theres no problem with exploiting it, it isn't against the rules.
I also don't actually see the need for a ranking reduction, if i managed to get to a rank such as 999 and i held the record then why shouldn't i stay there and wait for somebody to come and beat it? To me its like in real snooker, you dont lose ranking points if you dont play matches, you just dont gain any. Also if anything this would ensure that we had an even playing field!

Don't forget that your midnight is 1am for me, 2am for Romanian players (hey maxxk, kodd2), etc.
And I agree with the fact the ranking deduction is a good idea, as it makes feel the top players that they need to play a lot, I don't like the idea of someone reaching 999 and never playing again. You have the Highest Rankings table for that.
Also the ranking deduction makes it even more difficult (together with the edge modification) to reach very high rankings (say, >990). Which is good, making reaching a very high ranking an even better achievement.

Thats where your wrong Sidwell! If you don't play, people can overtake you
Also, on topic, I think this needs to be sorted out as its annoying for people like me who can't get on at midnight (don't you dare say anything Mike )
