Maybe i'm a bit cynical, but it appears to me that more increasingly there are players masquerading as newbies, who quite clearly are far more experienced than their status suggests. Recently I played this guy who's ranking read only a dozen or so games played but still managed a substantial break 42. Perhaps i'm not giving the poor guy enough credit, but the way he and others have been playing; well controlled spin, great safety/snookers, it seems that there are less than innocent newbies within our mist. The thing that gets me is that, the people who suffer is the real newbies, who will find it increasingly difficult to find games against higher ranked players, as people will just avoid them altogether. Anybody else have this problem? Perhaps it's time to name and shame.

I agree that people do like to reset their stats to make their profiles look better, and its effecting newbies, i should know seeing as my mate is one of those people.
This is where you lose my respect, its not nice naming and shaming and i think its against the rules (i THINK), so lets not name and shame
also b_real i think the person your on about (i can tell who it is) is doing very well, and i have never seen him before, and i think he is new to the site, he might have been a guest, so please lets not start insulting
EDIT: lots of spelling mistakes

I agree with Pikachu's last point
Also, naming and shaming can see your posting rights removed, so its in your best interests not to

Maybe they are players who left and came back? I did that and was accused of being a "fake newb" too. It is frustrating to be beaten by a newbie-but it is just a game so just dont play them if you dont want to!

Theres never a time to name and shame. Its against the rules to do that. I can understand how its becomes frustrating but naming and shaming wont make it go away.

Agreed it can be annoying but the people involved are doing nothing wrong so there would be no point in naming and shaming. It's wrong to call it cheating, otherwise it would be against the rules and the reset stats option would not be available.
You need to remember that its just a game and if your that bothered by it just choose not to play "newbies".

Is something cheating if it's not against the rules?...

It could very well be against the rules....
It's happened to me a few times that i'v played one of these 'newbies' (let me just add that it doesn really bother me as i'll play anyone, i'm just here to play and not too upset about my ranking)...
... but on checking the stats of these players, it usually isn't that they've reset their stats but started a different profile (most probably) and it is against the rules to have more than one profile

my brother played pool for ages and became a pro, then he desided to play snooker and he was a very good newbie! so some good newbies are hounest!
personally i agree, i cant stand fake newbies and i think the reset stats button should be taken away altogether because when a player resets his stats, there not his real stats anymore....so whats the point in having stats at all???!!!

How is it against the rules? If it was against the rules, these people would be banned. As you can see, most aren't. I admit there are certain people that break the rules as a "newbie", and these people are dealt with.
However, the majority are honest. The Reset Rank button is there for people who want to set themselves a challenge to reach a certain rank in so many games, or simply for people who want brand new stats.
No one says you have to play a newbie. However, when a newbie is at 840 rank for example, its obvious that they are a good player. If you play and lose, you still lose less points that if you had lost to a Professional. So personally, I don't see what the problem is

That wouldn't stop anything. The reason it was put there in the first place is because there was a lot of people deleting their accounts then making new ones if they weren't happy with their stats. This ended up with there being a lot of deleted users, and also made the forums appear really messy.
And also, it's not 'cheating', as is said in the title, why would it be put there if it was cheating?

If you read my original post it explains how rule breaking could be involved,
