I agree with cuchulain, i dont think premium members should be any different. The only reason people have to pay for the premium account is to compensate the site, as having no ads loses the site revenue. Personally i think thats all it should be. It makes sense that if funkysnooker isnt making money from ads then it has to make money from somewhere. I dont think premium account should have any major differences to normal users.

I think I'll quote this on this thread aswell... as it sums up some pretty important things...

Nick (From the original 'funkysnooker premium?' thread) said:
A while ago I decided to cancel the old plans to have a 2-tiered structure, free account and premium. I don't want to charge money for extra features, and my feelings remain the same.

However there's been some persistent feedback that some people would be happy to contribute a modest fee for services. In some cases people want to contribute, in other people don't wish to see adverts (they feel strongly against adverts or adverts interfere with gameplay due to their system setup).

I was also thinking I could completely remove the top part of the game window (with logo and advert) for such users gaining significant space.

Note I have no plans to change the current service or that a user will get any additional features.

I'm just after some feedback for now.

Nick

But adds generate more money

I used to charge: £2000 a year for main adds on a website, then you got mini adds from £50 to £500 ( I used to do it by PCM but thats what it worked out at)

You got to remember they are still making money of adds wether your a member or Premium member becuase somebody will always be using the add site version guests etc

Just to make it clear I don't want an extra game becuase its unfair to you becuase the majority of the top players where here along time before me so why would I want to take something away from the people who keep the site going. I'm just saying people pay for a service becuase you expect different features, somebody mentioned different cue colours, different felts thats all I brought it for not becuase I thaught nick was going change the intire game becuase somebody brought Premium! Just alot of people think that we want a new game just for 'Premium' and thats completly wrong just features that nobody cares about makes a difference

You paid for what it is when you bought it, it was in no way unclear what you were getting for your money. Nor were any promises made that anything else at all would be added.

I haven't really heard Nicks opinions on adding anything, so can't comment all too much on that.

For now, a 'premium account' is an add-free game window, and a slightly different user type.

What I think the problem is now is the word "premium" When I first joined the site there was a premium link at the bottom of the side options. When you clicked it, it suggested all the things that would be included in it, lots of new features basically. Since then however, the link was removed, the format was changed but the name remained the same: Premium.

maybe a new name should have been, and maybe still can be thought of. Contributer maybe?

Dont really see the point si. There are two main selling factors of the premium membership

1) Removal of ads
2) Donating money to safegaurd funkysnooker future

What you saying is that hardly anybody would care about new cue colours or new felts. Therefore it would add very little value (if anything) to premium membership.

Based on the thread title you can understand how this discussion could disintegrate into a messy mishmash of hypothetical scenarios.

Edit : Oh and another thing. I think Nick is looking into the possibility of giving the option to remove the "Premium Member" tag from your profile. Which wiill bypass the issues some people are raising with this.

I just arnt going to bother with this anymore! Just leave it how it is, becuase end of day like you just said everybody will complain anyways no matter what happens, just the more nick adds to 'Premium' the more people will buy it and this will Lead to and I quote as you said:

So remember that! If he adds more people buy more and if you add nuthing then I think its only me and Ricky still? And it will remain that way

The first day I got it no word of a lie about 30/40 people said to me 'I will buy it when he adds more to it' at 30 people at £10 6 month that £600 a year he never had before and that will pay for everything for the future of Funkysnooker

si123 I think your ideas make sense, but they are completely different than Nick's philosophy about Premium membership. That's the whole problem.

You are willing to increase the Premium membership's worth in order to sell more of it, while Nick isn't currently following that path. Your ideas would probably have some success if you were running your own site, but remember that Nick is the one who decides what direction the site's development should follow, especially when money (either from ads or Premium) is playing. He has decided to make Premium membership affect only the ads, and he has his reasons to do so.

What you are talking about, adding more features (big or small, whatever) for Premium members, is a completely different thing than the current Premium membership. So, unless Nick is willing to change his mind and let Premium membership be what it wasn't intended to at first, you aren't talking about the same thing as everyone else, you are giving another meaning to the Premium membership.

This has evolved into a near duplicate of the sticky premium thread, so capped for tidyness.
