The difference is that Downing has 2 years left on his contract, whereas Young had 1. Therefore could leave for free at the end of the year. The other is Downing will be on half the wages of Young at Liverpool and will end up being cheaper in the long run.

You are correct though, that £20M is steep. Why we are persisting in the English market, I just don't know. Better players, and better value abroad.

Stewart Downing has today completed his transfer from Aston Villa to Liverpool.

The winger, who has 27 England caps, put his signature on a long-term deal after passing a medical.

Downing is the club's fourth major signing of the summer following Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni.

17 years old Marco Bueno, would leave Pachuca to play in the Premier League.

The player revealed he's been in talks with the Reds and that a deal could be finalized soon.


"There has been talks. Pachuca and Liverpool are negotiating, but for now I'm concentrated in Pachuca. I must be going to Liverpool in a few days" he said
