Visual improvements can mean a lot to some players and will always help bring new people to the site.

people will flock to the site now that they know that they will not have to use their eyes to watch what pocket the ball goes in, that the computer will tell them.

that was what nearly caused me not to join the site in the first place.

So would we be correct to assume you you would consider it an improvement to go back to the plain, one colored cloth, remove the shading and rendering from the balls, the new cues, and all the other visual advances recently added and revert to funksnooker as it was in 2005?

It would make matters much easier if you could point out the negative aspect of this proposal, as I, and seeming others, have yet to see what makes you think it is "pointless".

i think it is kind of pointless aswell, unless you are smashing into the reds or are a bad player and miss loads of shots but fluke them anyway then there is no need to know where you potted the red or colour

i_am_deco said:
it may visually improve the game but it has no improvement to make to overall gameplay except to players who smash the balls around and want to know where the balls were potted.

i think that explains why kyle said it was pointless

that is my explanation, maybe you chose not to read them?? maybe you like to argue for the sake of arguing??

I think the_shadow was looking for an explaination from kyle09

As you say, it may visualy improve the game, and as the_shadow mentioned, there have been many such updates recently which I am sure none of us would like to do without now.

Lets not forget there were people saying the idea of a snooker game was pointless back before it was launched, and where would we be if they had put forward a decent argument

i could live without the differnet cursors and the ability to change colours on the table, i wasnt around in 05 so i cant comment on the rest of the changes

Right what i am on about is the reasons deco said.

You could put glitter on the table so balls would look sparkly as they were potted makes no difference to me.

1 it dosent help game play.

2 Dosent help balls go in or give you a better advantage then there is now

Ah but the thing is, cosmetic changes can make a difference to some users.

Personally, I would be ahppy with the old pool sharks style table and pixelated balls, yet I totally understand the appeal of the updates of the past few years and enjoy them now I'm used to them, and appreciate the difference they make to new users.

Just because certain suggestions won't help you personally doesn't make them pointless.

Hi!

When I propose this update i was thinking not about "Angelina Joile" approach but about bringing a bit more logic. And this logic was explained in my last comment.

I can repeat: "When ball is potted and other balls are in the move nobody knows if this ball give points to you or to your companion. So this ball should stay in hole until decision is taken. After this it will appear or in a side bar or on a table."

From graphic and beauty point of view this is not very big improvement.

I agree the game is fine and as a fan I want it "better".

What is better ? It is different for everyone. For me at the 1 place matter the Physics implemented. I'd like to bee it as much as possible close to reality.
I'd like to see curved shots.
The reflection of the white ball from any surfaces need to be improved.
But as it was discussed before this will not be changed very soon.

So as a fan of this game I accept this rule. And I focus on other aspects.
For instance graphics.

And as I say before details are what makes difference between Flinstone mobile and modern car.

while we are at it we can introduce chalk into the game aswell. and little pieces of chalk being left on the table to deflect the balls off course as in the real game.

how about the addition of a kick every now and then to take all the power out of the object ball?

curved shots cannot be added because that would require a 3d game engine. previously discussed several times in different threads.

im up for the chalk as well maybe a slanted table so it spins off at one side sometimes.

maybe random sounds at awkward times, like someone sneezing or coughing blasted out of the speakers at random times throughout the game

Lag on here is the "kick" in real snooker as that can happen any time.

Some quality ideas here, they would definitely improve the visual experience.
I personally like the random sounds idea very much, having a real audience background would maybe make me play with sound. Maybe we could also have people shouting "Come on Ronnie!" and the referee telling "Quiet please."
On the other hand, chalk deflecting the balls and random kick would add too much randomness to the game, so I doubt they will ever be implemented.

Seriously now, I'd like if we could stick to the topic and discuss only the animation of the potted balls.

Chalking, curve shots (and the requred game engine update), blanking of area's due to obsticles, mis-cues et have all been mentioned and would all be good in a more "simulation" based game. (107's would be more challneging if you have to remember to chalk or risk a mis-cue, for example)

On pool, I often refer to it as a re-introduction of a "pro" game.

But as Blutch says, those are other topics (please feel free to discuss elsewhere) - for this topic, yes, a refs hand would be a nice touch.

To continue the metaphor - some may find Ms Jolie quite fine without makeup - others may only take notice when that minor little addition is made

I think requiring to chalk your cue is just 1 step to far, it is a necesary evil in the real game, and with say a 10 sec shot clock, you need all the time you can get without having to chalk your cue.

Nice metaphor there though Spin

The sarcasm was noted, but is irrelevant as all are very good ideas
