Just a feeler, spinning (yes, i know, pun and all that) off from another thread, as to the thoughts on a more in-depth simulation style game option.
This would include things like chalking your cue to avoid miscues, table innacuracies, accurate nap deteriotration (with or without hand position influence) and the effects of over-chalking, restricted english appliance, 3D game engine allowing for curved shots etc, crowd noise, the list goes on...

could it be IMVU style with realistic simulation people?
the ability to dress them the way we want?
maybe we could just stick with the game the way it is and go to out local snooker halls if we want

We could have the ball wobbling in the jaws of the pocket on a near miss, a snooker cue instead of a pool cue, even shadow behind the balls, a realistic snooker table look (mahogany colour wood, white leather pockets). As spinner said, "the list goes on".

I believe thats almost word for word one of the replies to the suggestion for having a snooker game a few years ago

I like some of the ideas suggested.
Chalking the cue i think could be put into the game as it is.
I'm all for a new style of snooker. But aslong as the original funkysnooker stays in place. Maybe call it funkysnooker extra (as a paid option maybe).
Have unlockables after reaching certain targets for example:
winning 25 games
10 game win streak
winning a tournament
unlocks:
New cue Styles
More table cloths
Waistcoats? for player avatar.
Also, Ability to achieve medals for certain things. Which are in a trophy cabinet with all your tournament trophys.

you highlighted just one part of my post and removed my point from the context it was meant in.

Thats because IMVU wasn't around in 2004
The trophy cabinet idea is a good one.
I've always been keen on the idea of one-off "special" tournaments, only held a few times a year, and winning one of those, for example, could earn a medal. As could most wins in a year, etc.
This would give much needed long term goals and encourage people to stick with one profile and build it over they years.
One thing suggested a while back on pool regarding using chalk - more advanced things like this could be introduced for more advanced players. Like Professionals having to remember to chalk or they might mis-cue, with the tolerance even less for virtuosos, thus making the game more challenging and therefore more compelling.

it could also make the game more awkward and therefore drive players away. however the people who have been here long enough to progress to being a pro and higher arnt likely to want to leave.

I think you miss the point, it is not going to drive players away at all, the worse case scenario would be that the simulation game wouldn't be very popular, but I fail to see how it would drive players away from Funkysnooker all together, as there is no talk of it replacing any of the current versions.

If a simulation game was really to be made, I think the first thing to change from the current games would be to scale the balls down to their real sizes compared to the table.
But honestly, I don't see this happening, as it would be a really huge work, and would probably make less people happy than other, simpler upgrades.

I think he means if it was to become the more popular of the two and less people played the current version, if you didn't like the future version you wouldn't be tempted to come online as much.

But if more people were to like future versions then that is not the sites problem is it? Individual losses would be covered by new members it would create. So the point of it driving players away is off the mark.

New site? :S As far as i'm aware this is a new game "option". Killerpool is the new site, and Nick will not hesitate to make more sites if he wants to, I don't think he needs your blessings...
I remember saying the very same and the response was that every member is just as important be it new or old school. Don't delude yourself with the view that you (or anyone else infact) is more important.

could you please point out to me exactly where i said he needed my blessing to do anything or where i suggested he wont do what he wants?
or indeed where i stated my view that i am more important??
i think you will have a problem finding them.

Just to clarify this was just a hypothetical suggestion to see what opinion was these days, as all the previous threads are long buried and there are always threads poppng up wanting more realism/advanced gameplay in bits and pieces, I just pulled the ones i could remember together.
In the extremely unlikely (at the present time)event such a game were introduced it would be just like the introduction of the new US games on pool, and arcade over here. As a trial to begin with, and if popular retained (like arcade) and if unpopular, or if they "take over" from an older game type, the less popular removed (US Pro tables).
Indeed, it may be that only certain aspects of the idea prove popular and are incorporated into the current games.

Dont agree with any of these new changes.
I would go buy a snooker game for my PS3 if i was interested in a 3d game engine.
Funkysnooker is unique! Please dont go ruining the game.
EDIT: Sorry, read it all wrong.
