Right, I'm really sick of this "new" Carom break off shot,where you line the aim-er at the second dot and shoot, it's really annoying because EVERYONE knows how to do it and well isn't really fair IMO....

So the solution is... to remove the dots around the table

No , not anymore since it is really unfair, because using this break it is guaranteed a point so its basically 1- 0 already so.... the dots should be removed

So you used it yet it's unfair? people master the break on original is that unfair too? Keep it as it is.

And the dots are how it is on the real carom table.

Instead. Players whould have to reach 10 points to win.

i aim for a small stain in the wood on the table so removing the dots wouldnt stop me taking the shot.

also the option of carom match first to 10 would be gr8

I agree with the fact that this break off shot takes off some of the fun of the game. However it's not unfair since, as you said, everyone can do it.

The dots were added in order to make the table more real, as well as to help players planning their shots precisely. In my opinion they are really useful for these reasons.


It's not the same though, the carom break off provides around 100% success, but I know nobody who can hit 100% good original break offs. That's why the topic is relevant for carom.

Having to reach 10 points would not bring no solution to the current problem, and would generate endless games between less skilful players. Letting the players decide how many points they want to play could be discussed however, but please in another thread.

I've seen dgeneratio miss it before. So technically it isn't 100% effective.

It isn't unfair. it puts more emphasis on the most important shot in Carom, the lag!

everybody knows where to aim anyway so the chances of them making the "unfair" break are only slightly reduced.

i for one do not know exactly which dot to aim for but im sure if i sat on the practice table i would find out.

im afraid all you have done is highlighed it for anybody who didnt already know of its existence.

people are always going to gain a competitive edge any way they can, take on pool for example, people have learned how to play mini golf in 9 shots, by aiming at particular spots on or off the table, is that unfair too, maybe but its still going to be done.

Sounds like sour grapes to me, you've obviously lost a game because of it and felt hard done by, but that's life.

What the.... this break has been around ages, why would anyone make a thread just out of sore losing? well i certainly did not...And as in ages i mean a while just everyone knows the break know and its kinda pointless if everyone that plays carom uses it.. you don't see top professionals use the same break do you? (in carom)

You also don't see professionals potting off the break and clearing for a max do you?

I dont use the dots for the break of shot i just know where to hit the red ball precisely and i will 100% of the time make the shot
