I was on for a 107 2 minutes ago in a tournament game (56) and my opponent left and it stopped me and gave me the win? I'm pretty sure it hasn't always been like that, if i remember correctly you used to be able to carry on no matter what your opponent did?

Erm it's been like that for as long as I can remember (most of the threads on this have been archived being so old). As for it being pointless joining a tournie, surely the point is winning the tourney ... halfs and cents are a only a bonus.

been said time and time again, its one of the worst rules on funky - you should be allowed to finish the break even if the player leaves the tournament room.

Did it ever used to be different then?
If it did then why was it changed?

It used to be different in the dim and distant past I (so long ago it I don't remember it being different) and Nick changed it to reduce double DQs. Many threads have since discussed alternatives which have not yet been implemented and no one (except Nick of course) knows if they ever will as it is unlikely to be a priority use of time and resources.

Seeing as almost every response to this debate is that it would be better if you could play on if your opponent left I reckon it should be a priority though.
Maybe ?

It's not a simple as that there's something to do with the timing cant really remember what but something along the lines of if your still on the break while the other rounds finish then DQ will occur I think.

That is correct, any game in progress at game end would result in disqualifications. Also we try to get the rounds finished as soon as possible, in theory 60 people could be waiting for your break to finish.
Currently, if you're in a tournament winning it should be your priority.

I think it is a really poor feature of funky, talk about fixing a minor problem and creating a major one, it is the equivalent of curing a cold and replacing it with the plague.

Not at all - keeping tournament rounds moving quickly benefits the majority of people.

to me this shouldnt have been changed in the 1st place and should be put back the way it was.
they have warnings so they can just miss on 1 minute left to save a double DQ, listen to us nick and please bring it back.

I second what the_kop said! Nick, definitely a step backwards!
