Considering how hard Carom is right now for the majority, a good idea isn't making the game harder.

A good idea would be something such as an aimer on the practice table only to assist people in learning how the ball is going to run. As for the actual playing against other people aspect, it doesn't make much difference. It would make learning the game easier, which, being completely honest, is what Carom needs. If something is easy to learn, it becomes easy to play meaning more users are going to play Carom.

Having an aimer on the Carom table may mean that people who have never used spin would be able to see how it works without actually taking a shot, giving a beneficial aspect to the other game types.

Copied and pasted from another thread, 'cause I cba typing it out again.

The only problem with the aimer though is that it doesn't know the power of the shot, which changes the spin a lot. If that can be sorted then this idea is perfect!

Seeing as this would be just for practice with no time limit, couldn't the current power bar on the right hand side be made clickable to show how the spin would affect with various power levels? Doesn't seem like a huge change. Could do with someone who has programming knowledge though!

I don't see why not. It would also show how the cue ball would react to hitting the knuckles of the pocket, which has, most of the time, been a hit and hope

this would be great, wonder if a 2nd white could be placed to show where cue ball finishes?

I think this would benefit players who understand carom already more so than those who have no idea.

There needs to be a basic video demonstration on the home page in my opinion

just for the basics of carom.

Granted that would be a good idea and would help, however it doesn't actually help them learn to play the game itself. It just shows them how the game is played which still leaves them to guess where the ball is going to go.

yep thats my point pal

if they dont know the basics (rules) then the aimer is of no use at all.

Explain this point? I see where you're coming from, but I don't understand how it would benefit people who know what they're doing more. Surely if they know what they're doing, they won't need the aimer?

The aimer would be an extra to be chosen in the options menu so it can be switched off at any time.

So the video and the aimer go hand in hand? For one to be useful the other is needed?

demonstration video, to help beginners understand

aimer on practice table - to help those who know the rules but struggle with play

Both of these would help increase the users of Carom.

This is not a good idea IMO as only a small number of people play carom and any idea should benefit the site as a whole and not just the 20 people that play carom..

The purpose of the thread mate is to help increase the number of players playing carom.

But also this highlights that the aimer would be beneficial to players who play carom already.

you could have this as an option like sound etc, i agree this would benefit not only carom but other game types as well.

just a word on damee's point about the power of a shot affecting the spin and thus changing the effect of the spin.

i think a way around this would be to assume full power on the shot. after that then a player can use their own judgement and a bit of practise to work out where the ball will go based on less power.

something like this would be what i mean. Its sort of easy to follow. bear in mind when looking at it that i am mentally shattered from today so this whole post may not make sense when i see this tomorrow. all lines are originating from the white ball

Some of those shots are fouls, as you have to hit the red first

I think its a good idea, altho it would suck a little bcoz i think it would help too much

Good idea tho.
