As whocares says "position is way more important than potting..." this is why I am only able to make any decent scores in original where positioning counts for less. I was told that little, well paced shots make a better break builder and I feel that has helped me, it's not about hitting it as hard as you can. You have to think where the white is going after contact with the object ball, if you have a rough idea of this you will make the next pot easier and not need to risk a long pot or get out of position. Wish I could take my own advice

Along with positional and potting skills, you really have to have a plan. If you're only looking 1 or 2 balls ahead you are effectively hitting and hoping.

Similarly, whether potting or positioning, staying at the table must always be the no 1 priority. Don't think of individual ball scores - a yellow that sets up a break can effectively be worth 100 or more, but a difficult black could cost you that..

On this site you can get away to an extent with no positional ability, but have no chance if you don't have the potting ability.

Potting is more important simply, but positioning separates the best from the rest as they can see where they want the white every time and simply put it there.

If im honest, im way better at potting then position. Which alot of people will already know.

If there's a clump of reds that go into a couple of pockets, I dont usually play for a particular red but for the clump, and if I want to get onto a particular color I play the position to leave me on the color.

Which seems to work well because if I miss position on one red I usually get it on another.

I know some people will say its nieve or say that a great player will play for a particular red, but if it's not broke dont fix it.

About only thinking 1 or 2 shots ahead being a mistake, I only think 1 or 2 shots ahead and I seem to do fine. But thinking more then one or two ahead is always a better idea.
