The patch today allows for us to run ranked tournaments. Currently all tournaments are still unranked.

In addition there is some reorganisation of code which should increase speed when flicking between games. Arcade, Regular and Original are also relabelled as to include Snooker, so Arcade Snooker etc, as this is clearer for new users.

You should make tournies for different ranks for example 600-700 or 700-800 or so..

Will all the tournys be ranked, or will there be a choice?

once a couple, i reckon there should be 2 randoms (1 ranked 1 unranked), would be nice for carom too but its not popular enough.

1 or 2 arcade should be ranked i reckon, the 4 pm orig speed could be ranked, same with 8 pm regular tournie rest should be friendly.

Each frame is ranked, the same as other games are. So the tournament winner could, in theory, end up with a lower ranking than when they started, should they win frames 2-1 against weaker opposition.

We will run a few ranked tournaments and gauge popularity and feedback.

I suspect there will be ranked all tournaments, and some friendly tourneys.

How will the ranking scale work?

Will it be like the way it is now for normal ranked games or will it be something different?

I'm guessing it's how it is now.

One possibility that is worth thinking about is borrowing one aspect from football's international ranking (FIFA World Rankings) which use a similar system (but they adopted it after funkypool!).

They scale the rankings by the importance of the competition like so:


It would seem to me that tournaments on here should weigh rather more heavily than ranked games.

The more I think about it the more I like this idea. Tournaments should be the flagship games of the sites. If the top ranked players get there without playing tournament games it seems wrong.

If this scale was implemented I'd suggest changing it (compared to now) as tournament games multiplied by 1.2, and ranked games multiplied by 0.6 (meaning tournament games would be worth double).
