23:09 Wed 27 Oct 10 (BST) [Link] that implies the whole idea of playing is for rank not fun. The complete opposite of why alot of people come on here.
I could be proved wrong by tournament numbers but I foresee a drop in the amount of people entering tournaments if they are ranked.

One possibility that is worth thinking about is borrowing one aspect from football's international ranking (FIFA World Rankings) which use a similar system (but they adopted it after funkypool!).
They scale the rankings by the importance of the competition like so:
It would seem to me that tournaments on here should weigh rather more heavily than ranked games.
----
The more I think about it the more I like this idea. Tournaments should be the flagship games of the sites. If the top ranked players get there without playing tournament games it seems wrong.
If this scale was implemented I'd suggest changing it (compared to now) as tournament games multiplied by 1.2, and ranked games multiplied by 0.6 (meaning tournament games would be worth double).

I do still think that ranked tournaments would be better if they were more like real life tournaments where the ranking points are received for the position they finished in the tournament.
then edge modification and so on can be taken into account

can we have a gamble button that we can use once a day
so:
you join a game
you press gamble button if you want
if you win you get double points that you would have got if you lose you lose double points you would have lost

As has been explained many times both here and on pool, this is what happens when you have the games ranked.
The reason the games have to be ranked as normal is that any other system would be incompatible with the current rank system, thus requiring a seperate rank system, which, since it would only be used for tournaments would be little different to the tournament stats we already have.

Whilst I agree with the principle of ranked tournaments, I can't say I'm a fan of it on here.
Because, as Spinner explained, it has to use the existing ranking system, the 'fake newbie problem' (which is not really a problem) might start becoming a problem (remembering there is no way to avoid playing them without forfeiting). Besides, a system whereby the tournament winner can end up having less points than when entering (rareish I know but possible) can't really be fair.

Would it be possible to just give the results in the same way as normal tournaments as it currently gives them as ranked matches (up to 4 lines for each game)?
I normally have tournament results on so I can see how others are progressing, but when a ranked one is on the chat area becomes confusing and quickly filled up.

18:54 Sat 30 Oct 10 (BST) [Link] I think it looks poor to have "original snooker" on the announcements instead of just "original".
Even new users will know they are on a snooker site so its just common sense that its snooker they are playing

Arcade, Regular and Original are also relabelled as to include Snooker, so Arcade Snooker etc, as this is clearer for new users.

I don't think tournaments should have ranking points assigned to them but i guess it wont hurt for the odd event.
I certainly won't be entering any ranked tournaments as it is possible to lose a frame to a 750 ranked player and i will lose alot of points.
This could work well for lower ranked players though as the higher ranked players won't want to put their ranking points on the line so the tournaments will be filled with lower ranked players, it's just going to punish the better players so i hope it just stays as the odd tournament here and there.
I think the ranked tournaments should be best of 3 at least even in the early rounds.

I don't think this is necessarily the case - what this will do is make tournament games the most critical games, eg the ones that carry the most weight in terms of points and you can also get a tournament win.
You would still have 3 levels of games (friendly, normal, and tournament), and you can still choose your level to suit your idea of fun.

Ever since this new update there has been something wrong with my "remember ID".
I refreshed the page just now and it logged me out and when i logged back in it still had the box ticked in my edit profile section...
Yesterday the same happened and when I checked it said "remembered in 7 locations" ... how can it not register on any of them 7 to keep me logged in when the only computer i stay logged in on is this one.

"Please tell us why you're leaving to help us improve the site."
would read better with some punctuation or rewording. It currently implies you are leaving to help the site.
then again in my case thats true
