true but if you have a drop down box with options like, 5, 10, 20 or something like that or ability to write your own points in 5 min 20 max lets say then people can't complain as you will look at number of points before entering a room.

chubby's point is fair. dgeneratio is also right. Im not saying it should be 20 points only. either drop-down box, or if its one number only, then i'd go for 10 points.

Snooker max is 147..
Carom doesnt have a max, but 5, is just too few.
Its less than 107, if it was an 'arcade' type game. Thats because 107 to 147 is about 60% ?
And a normal carom game is about 20, but 5 / 20 is 25% ...

Chubby makes a very good point and I think that explains why the 5 point game should be kept, however for those of us who can make regular 5s, it would be good as well to have a game where making a 5 run won't necessarily win you the frame.

Fuzzy mentioned the difference between arc and reg/orig. In arc a break of 52+ leaves your opponent needing snookers (excluding fouls), but in orig its unlikely to be a frame winning break. In reg/orig a 73+ break will leave your opponent needing snookers and that is a lot more than 52! Especially if the reds aren't nice. I think this difference is what we are after in carom.

How about a drop down menu like:

Beginner (first to 5)
Standard (first to 10, slightly smaller balls)
Expert (first to 20, even smaller balls)

Or something along those lines.

Does having separate games within the same game type alienate those players who aren't in 'cliques' (for lack of a better phrase) and again give a monopoly to those who advocate these proposed changes?

As for the ball size argument, would having smaller balls (excuse the double entendre) not make runs harder to achieve on it's own so surely only one change is supposedly neccessary?

I obviously see this from a different perspective to others, just trying to air my views of me (and possibly others). Does this also go back to the billiards game debate?

Good idea but there could be some problems with the turn sucess percentage...
There got to be 3 different percentages for each type (beginner, standard, expert)

Plus, it would be a very significant change of a similar magnitude to that of introducing a new table type (like regular was for instance) and the number of players does not, as yet, warrant it.

i was just voicing ideas . i had also only just woken up when i posted that and the practical applications had not occurred to me .

all we are asking for really is a drop down box with 5 or 10 points this caters for beginners and those who fancy a challenge.

carom cheat lag also needs to be fixed but nick told me we can use the side cushions so im not sure on the update there.

Side cushions yes, but NO opponents half ! Thats the cheat !

still cheating and as long as its there its takes the fun out of the lagging part.

any higher ups have any idea if points will be raised (via drop down box) and "cheat" lag will be fixed?
