19:25 Sun 12 Dec 10 (GMT) [Link] You have to remember that this is only a 2D game though. There are dozens of shots that no professional player would attempt but are extremely easy on here.
A large factor of safety play in a real game of snooker is getting the cue ball close to the cushion to hamper the opponents cueing on the next shot. That for a start is not currently possible on here.

Firstly I agree that the only fair way to play a re-spotted black is a random chance 'flip of a coin' as in the official rules.
The point that doesn't seem to have been raised is that on a re-spotted black there is a very good chance that a reasonable player will pot it, this is where it differs from the real game.
No professional, or club player, would try to pot the black out of the 'D'.
I think with the law of averages for the few times a game is drawn it's ok as it is.
The only way to make it fairer could be that the player having to take the first shot at a re-spotted black has to play safe, as the pro's do in a real game but I image that would be difficult to write into the programme.

true, would be wicked if the ball is tight on the cushion that you cant use backspin only top and side but i doubt its possible for nick to show only a part of the spin ball, would make breaks a bit harder.

Yeh part of that problem is the fact that they may actually choose to play the white along the cushion rather than away from it. So it would need to recognize the position of the cue before you can put spin on it.
Only way I can see this happening is by taking your shot in stages, so you set the position of your cue, this is then locked into place, then you set your spin, and then you play the shot.. Which would make game play pretty slow and annoying.
Or.. an alternative option would be to actually have the ball where you select your spin in 3D. So the spin indicator would rotate depending on the position of your cue. This would probably be a more realistic option, but again I can't see it being implemented.

I can see greatest's point of view but you have to keep it random as they do in real life (toss of a coin)...however...
I would like to see the real life rules changed so that you take randomness out of the whole game and use lag instead of tossing a coin.

I know Hann has done it before though...before his years of controversy was ended with a ban

i was inflicted by this terrible rule,i cleared the table coming behind from snookers needed to tie up the scores, typically the game favoured the other player and he got a tap in black from the respot, nobody misses from that,a horrible rule.

You had a 50/50 chance of getting the re-spot. How is that a horrible rule? There is no fairer way of deciding who gets the oppurtunity to take the first shot on a respot.

fairer way would be having no tied games, let the frame scores roll on to another frame.

Letting the frame scores roll on to the next frame is against the real snooker rules, the probability of getting the shot on the re-spotted black is 50%-50%, like in real snooker, so it's fair as it is.
We are trying to make this game look more like real snooker, not deviate more from it.

the re spot black is basically a gifted win to whoever wins the toss on here.

Agreed, but winning the toss has an equal chance for each player, so the rule is fair.

I've had I think 5 respots now (2 my shot, 3 opponent's shot). None of my opponents have managed to pot, including one high-ranked player! (all orig).
