How is it decided which player gets the first shot when the black is re-spotted after the scores are tied?

its random - has been brought up on countless other occasions hunni - once by myself when i had 3/4 in a row go against me - but after playing for a while now it does even itself out

yep emily got it right, if you think of a coin, 50% chance it can land on heads, and 50% chance it can land on tails, its just luck of the draw basically.

the respot black should go to the person who didnt have the advantage of the smash break. Seems fairest to me.

I think what he meant was the person who breaks, shouldn't then be given the shot if the black is re-spotted.
But anyway, I would like to know how the decision is actually given. I know its random but with coding, its impossible to get a totally random output, the output is always a result of something.
Would be interesting to know how nick has went about creating the random choice.

when one player breaks the opponent goes first in respot, that way both players know where they stand before and can model their frame around this

The whole point of a random selection is that that you can't do this to gain an advantage.

only way you can do this by skill is the carom lagshot but its unfair on people who dont play carom also.

It's exactly according to the rules. As it should be. There have been previous threads about this...

Simply uses the current time as a seed.

Sorry, am I missing something here? I thought the whole idea of snooker was to try and win each frame outright, not play for a draw and subsequent re-spot

unfortunately people cant expect true snooker rules on here,no touching ball,no miss rule and everybody bar me smashes the arcade break.

There is no 'true snooker rule' saying you can't smash the break off though...
