@first post, I was meaning for each individual game type not overall. So if I hit a 107 (arc), 125 (reg), 87 (orig), 12 run (carom) for example the I would at that time be virt in arc, pro in reg, adept in orig, pro in carom.
@second post, there will always be exceptions lol, and I suspect he had hit a max on a club table somewhere before that?

i never at any point made an assertion, claim or assumption that breaks in real life reflect ranks. i stated that any self respecting professional in real life can make a century break. I am not saying they do all the time, just that they have the ability to. Conversely a lot of professionals on here do not have the ability to. A title like that should reflect ability in the game, not being able to play a 600 rank 200 times and win 198 of them.
All i am trying to do is to think of a way to bring the skill back into the game. I could train a monkey to make a 60 break in arcade potting baulk colours, but it doesnt mean my monkey is a professional snooker player. He would win a lot of games, but it doesn't mean he is a good player.
Look back at the old top players and how many maxes they have hit and compare that to the people at the moment. If you want to, take their games per max count if difference in games is big (resetters not included).

I can see the basis behind this idea Adam, but Snooker isn't just about breaks, it's all about getting the result.
A player might have a highest break of 91, but makes an unbeaten run of 50 odd games, and wins himself 80 odd ranking points to get to Virtuoso - you're saying that just because he hasn't hit a century/maximum, he shouldn't be awarded the rank of Virtuoso? I don't agree with that.
And I have to say, if this was to come in, and your ranking rules were to be used, they are setting the bar a little high IMO...

I would personally say that a title like 'virtuoso' should be for the most skillful players, not those who churn out results. Why do people talk about Ste, destiny and dame as the best in the game? It's not because they churn out 70 breaks and win everything, but because they have the ability to make a high break from pretty much any situation. THAT is what deserves the title 'virtuoso'. The free online thesaurus/dictionary defines virtuoso as "someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field." No offense but a 60 break doesn't take dazzling skill. A max however does require a great deal of skill.

Maybe something like you cant get over 850 without a century and cant go over 900 without hitting a max, might need more thought about it but i cba to go in to it more, some1 else can lol.

o and btw mark williams won a tournament without hitting a cent in the whole tournament his highest was an 88 .... and he also reached a final last year that he lost against john higgins without hitting a cent but you would say he is one of the greats to play the game :D

think its fair to say that an 88 in real life with realistic potting/cushion shots/spin etc is significantly more difficult than making an 88 on an online game with simplified spin, ability to make impossible cuts and no punishment for sloppy position on cushions/other balls.

A bit like the virt you were on about without a max? :\
Think it's a good idea but without trying to brag lol I've had 1 game 1 max a few times.... thinking it would look a bit strange being a virt after just one game maybe lol.... if that's what you meant anyway I haven't really read it all haha
But yeah anyway, anything to get people to go for the big breaks I support I guess...
Maybe it could be a mix of achievements you need to get whatever title..... ?
