Quite.
Nothing can be argued about that.
If you waiting to play someone and after 30 seconds the game starts, then they break, that is 20 seconds, then you put them back in, that is another 20 seconds, then you put them back in again that another 20 seconds.
I would rather be playing someone or waiting for a new oppenent that have to wait for him to be timed out.

If someone rings the doorbell while I'm waiting for an opponent in a game room, I don't think the game should automatically start. If the timer on the yes/no option runs down, the default choice should be no, not yes.

18:22 Sat 17 Sep 11 (BST) [Link] Again, if the game has already started, I'm completely with you.
Before a game has started I just can't agree. You shouldn't be punished for not being there BEFORE a game has started. You should be punished for leaving DURING the game.

9 times out of 10 it will be the users fault for messing about doing other things, and i don't think you would be worrying to much about losing a game of funkysnooker by default if something serious did happen.

Hi.
I also know about this problem and I totally agree with whocares! I very often play at night times and if you are waiting more than 5 minutes for an opponent it is really exhausting to sit in front of the screen without an opponent.
So you start browsing the net, sometimes with music on. Then somebody enters your room, clicks start and after two minutes you lost the game just because you missed the doorbell! If you are really lucky it was somebody 100 rankingpoints lower than you.
Wonderful. In my opinion this should be changed by default choice "NO"

If my mum fell down the stairs the last thing i would be thinking about is this game, this game means nothing to me. It seems like it means everything to you, remember you don't have a future from playing funkysnooker, win or lose it doesn't mean a thing.
*CRASH!!* aarrgghh!!!! be right with you mum, just finishing this frame.....

Ah, glad I found this thread.
Original Snooker Ranked - angelo (1) 11-0 (0) whocares8x8 (by default, whocares8x8 left the game)
RANKINGS: angelo 658.7 (+7.4), whocares8x8 929.1 (-7.4)
I was sitting in my table, waiting for an opponent. I left the computer for 3 minutes because the doorbell rang. I came back and someone had joined my table, the game had automatically started, and I got timed out.
Simple change: instead of automatically starting the game without both players' consent, why not boot the player out (as is done once the player times out 3 times)?
One previous counterargument was that players will create tables and just sit there doing nothing. A: Why is that bad? B: Players can do that anyway by creating a friendly table- you don't get booted out of those and games don't start automatically.

agreed with Seb, the table your referring too is private games where you don't get booted as its a no time limit game, friendlies you can still be booted as ranked (but you don't lose rank).
i think its a simple change really just needs nick to read it

but obviously if your in play mode you have consented lol. your telling the game that your ready to play right? just makes me laugh how ppl complain about every little detail on here, its a game not a career lol. but hey ho hope nick reads it and does the fix so you can answer your door without fear of losing points

No, I have not consented. If I have, then why does it ask me to click yes or no?
That's all I'm asking for
It's really just a small change and wouldn't hurt the game.

15:02 Sat 21 Jan 12 (GMT) [Link] But is there any good reason why games are started without my consent?
Yes, to stop people creating a game and then wondering off doing other things, it's not fair on the opponent having to wait while you go off doing something else, this has been explained before.
It takes 2 seconds to click on chat room, so really it's your own fault knowing that the game could start automatically before you get back.

The opponent has to wait 30 seconds anyway- so this automatic loss punishment doesn't help the situation at all. In fact, by starting the game, the opponent has to wait even longer- another 3x20 seconds for the other person to time out. How is that a smart solution?? Isn't that what you were trying to avoid- having people wait for their opponent?

I absolutely agree that if your havent clicked YES in 20 seconds then you should just be removed from the game....no loss to anyone.

The thing is, how easy is this to avoid from happening? Maybe it is a harsh punishment but it's so simple to avoid.
You would think after it's happened to someone once they would make sure it doesn't happen again, but thats not the case with some people.

Yes, but surely you shouldnt punish people for sometimes forgetting...its not like its done on purpose....whats the outcome in the long run....annoyance, and a loss of points which can be avioded...just make it so you just leave the room...simple

its not even worth a discussion, im sure its happened to us all at some point and its not exactly fair to lose points when you havent actually participated in the game.

Not many people seem to be bothered about it so i can't even see it been changed, thats probably because it doesn't happen to many people because it's simple to avoid.
Maybe change the game time to 90 seconds so it gives you plenty of time to get back.
