I think admins need to clear things up on this...

I hear someone has been blocked from using the site because of other users playing on the same network. I can't see how this is not allowed as long as you are playing the game fair i can't see what the problem is, what if you have brothers and sisters etc who want to play in the same household.

I honestly don't believe this is true, so it would be nice if a member of staff could clear this up!

Do you really beleive someone's network has been banned because others play on the same network as them? Of course not.

What happens as far as im aware is.. if somebody has been naughty, their username is banned and also their Ip address... so yes, if people share the same network IP address, both will be banned.

It's probably best if you read peoples posts properly before making a fool out of yourself, obviously i don't believe it as i said at the bottom of my post.

I created this thread hoping admin will clear this up as some people seem to believe it's true..

EDIT: I notice his username hasn't been banned so that makes sense what m_wood said, it's probably someone else on the same network who has been abusive and got his IP blocked.

I can tell you from when I was a moderator, that if you have 2 users who play on the same I.P, they may be monitored a bit closer, but if it's all fair and no cheating etc, then there is nothing admin will do about it. Public networks are used by several on this site, so if it was the case, then all them would be banned.

I used to have my brother and my dad playing off same internet connection, and never had a problem once.

true plus there are schools and colleges etc so admin have to be careful that the wrong people don't get banned, some bannings i disagree with (like smurfs on pool which was an accident) but 99% of the time users are banned for a reason and only 1% of those is a mistake.

always play friendly games with members on your network so its not suspicious and if you get approached then just tell them the truth.

just for record, one time i had 5 people all on same network, at first admin got suspicious but once i told them whos account was which they dropped it.

I disagree that you have to tell a mod/admin you are going to play someone on your network like if you are going to have a couple of ranked games you should not need to say imo.
But then if you are thrashing someone on your network 27-0 then that is obvious.

Anyway If you read hustlers thread i think whocares8x8 might have gave a strong hint why the user can't get on. Coz i doubt they have just suddenly decided to pick on one user out of hundreds who share a network.

Don't you normally just get a one month ban and account banned if you do out bad?

normally but IP banned users normally get longer.

it is obvious however if your family member is really poor, i doubt you would lose on purpose to make it less suspicious but at same time purposely losing is against the rules too.

I agree with masterplan that you shouldn't have to tell a mod/admin when you are playing someone on the same network. If you are not doing anything wrong then why should you have to inform a member of staff, they should know if your the same person or not anyway without you having to tell them.

You don't have to tell a moderator or admin, but if they ask, just tell them. That's all that needs doing.

See i'm 800 rank ish now, if I suddenly got to 890 to find out the person I have just beat 40-0 is on the same IP that would create a ban!

And I have had family on this site through my Network aswell but thing is tho, if you play family just havea friendly game because you don't want to give them that reason to ban you etc

But if you do play for ranked and you were obviously better than him by a massive amount, just play once or twice unless he's on a different network then win 40-0 lol

There is many reasons why this is in place, i'll explain one reason for you.

As this is the internet, we can never tell who is playing on your network, it may well be yourself, a family member, a friend but the truth is , we don't know (unless they invent something that would let us )

For this reason we only want people on the same address to play friendlies so the game remains fair as far as rankings etc.

We don't go around intentionally banning people.
