Hi,

I'd like to draw attention to a problem which I feel is increasing day by day:
People who in a game, usually the middle, say 'gg' or 'gg wp' when they miss and you come onto the table. The score is usually close, they may even be winning yet suddenly your appearance at the table has ended the game because you are bound to clear up etc...
It is highly disrespectful and can only be deployed tactically and with intention to distract.
It has transformed the polite courtesy of 'gg' into a disrespectful and frankly irritating insult. Good Game signals a polite response to the end of a game or when the result is conclusive. It is not appropriate at any other point. (They happily continue playing when they return to the table after a miss).
Anyone who uses this marks themselves out as 'idiots/fools' in my book and I thus refuse to play them again. Something needs to be done about this. I'm thinking potentially a name and shame thread on the forum so people can actively avoid playing ranked matches against them.
Has you seen this be deployed? What do you think about it?
Thoughts please...

I totally agree, if the game is as good as over and the score is unrecoverable then I think it is ok to say it, but when people say it and then if you miss, but they only need one snooker they then continue to play rather that flagging, and often getting lucky and getting the required snooker which could result in you losing the frame.

I think this would be better suited in Game Queries.

Can a moderator move it please.

Just because the balls are in potable positions does not mean that errors or misjudgements cannot occur..

Ive always said... does Judd Trump stop Neil Robertson half way through a frame and say GOOD GAME MATE... no.

i agree and if they really think the game is over why dont they just leave ( in tournis) no they wont because while they are saying gg wp " its all yours" they are on thier knees praying for you to miss. bad sportsmanship. yes its an online game but that dunt mean ppl cant conduct themselves in the correct manner.

There have been several similar threads as this, notably http://www.funkysnooker.com/thread/8419/gg-wp

Whilst it is a cause of annoyance, there is, ultimately, very little that can be done. Of course, you can choose not to play a certain member again, or you could ignore all chat.

One of the recurring themes in other threads was "you don't get put off by other chat, so why should "gg, wp" bother you?".

As regards to naming and shaming - this has never been, and will not be tolerated on Funky Snooker.

Agree with all of the above, but it's been argued to death on other threads.
damee and potentially spinner will be here in a bit, so you'll get the (terribly weak ) counteropinion as well.

baff: as a different and much less public solution- would it be possible to mark people on your own account. e.g. you can 'add to friends' and no-one knows about it but you could also 'add to ignore' or something similar. Because one of the problems is that it is not really possible to remember each circumstance when someone does this or similar (e.g. could also be used for bad language). You could then check the list to avoid the incident being repeated and the funkysnooker experience being damaged. Equally, the offending person would not be 'named and shamed'.

Mr icecream - you already have the poosibility to ignore another member (with that account going to a similar page to your friends' page):
Click on their name from the game, open a PM (chatbox) and click "Ignore" (as opposed to "Add to friends").
When on your Friends list, you will see "View your ignore list" near the top of the page.

I think this was brought up in the past already- color coding the names would really help. So if an "ignore" player joins your game, his name will appear red or something. That way, I don't have to click through 3 pages to check a list.

yo yo yo baff mate, im on a few different sites at the moment, like soccer manager for example, and i would say the name and shame thread is actually a good way of cutting out the bad sports on the game, it works on other forums, i think it would be a good addition to funky one day.

to ice cream -

i would like chocolate please!

heres a tip for you mate.

when people say "gg" to me early i wait about 5 seconds compose myself then get down and take your shot, similar to when a member of the audience distract real snooker players, it does work.

someone did it to me yesterday so when i lost position when it was their shot i did it back to them. alternatively you could put them on ignore

In theory being able to name and shame people who are such bad sports would be good, but it would be very hard to stop such a thing being used for vendettas between people as someone being named and shamed for something they havn't done is not right.

Hello

This does tend to crop up once in a while this argument that gg means the game is over. It just doesn't mean the game is over, it means "good game". What's to say the current game has been good so far and you then say "gg". When that is said in that context, it is totally fine putting it as it fits the bill.

What I don't get one bit of when you say "gg" when it's been a terrible game and loads of easy shots missed etc. Why would you say good game when it just isn't?

To expand on this, if I put "ns" you wouldn't be put off by this, so why should "gg"?! It's only 2 letters, it's clearly a mental issue if you really let 2 letters affect your gameplay.

Does Judd Trump and Neil Robertson say to eachother after every game "gg wp" or "gg ul"? No, they don't.
