I'm BACK!
Loving all of the funny messages just above this one, brilliant!! Thank you peeps!
A HUGE Thank you also to youngjeezy and etarvt for their donations and pledges to donate!! Thank you so much!!!
Right, how did it go I hear you ask...
1) Loud beeping in hotel meant only 2 1/4 hours sleep saturday night, not nice!
2) Cab booked for 6am sunday morning, so headed outside at about 5.50 but left my running number (you cant run without it) on my bed, and was locked outside! So had to cancel cab and wait for a member of staff to arrive for breakfast time to let me back in again, which they finally did at 8.15!!
3) New cab booked, had to be at start line for 9.15 so I asked him to get me as close as poss to Greenwich Park (the start line) baring in mind all of the road closures in the area. Fine, no prob, he said, but where is Greenwhich Park?! HE'S A LONDON CABBY AND HE'S ASKING ME WHERE IT IS!! Worse still, he finally dropped me off on the slip road entry onto the M25 towards Dover! WTF!!! NOT HAPPY!! This meant a 3 mile jog from there to the start line - made it by just 4 minutes!!
4) About 5 meters after starting I stepped in a pothole on the road, jarring my my knee - ouch! What a start!
5) The pain slowly disapates and I get to 11 miles or thereabouts relatively comfortably! Then I pull a muscle in my neck - absolutely horrible pain! I cant move my head at all without sharp, shooting pains....

...so the St. John's people tell me i'm done and out of the race. I said a stern no, despite having still 15 miles to go, saying i'm finishing this no matter what. He gave me 2 pills i'd never heard of before & the pain starts easing over the next 2 miles or so.
6) About 16 miles reached & leg & foot cramps are bad, mostly walking now.
7) Torrential rain and freezing cold weather starts as I reach about 18 miles, feeling v awful!
8) Slowly I head into the 20's and at about 4.45 pm I see the 25 mile marker outside parliament and I just cant hold back the tears as I finally know i'm going to finish. Members of the crowd on mass start coming out into the road to pat me on the back and say nice words as i'm slowly and very painfully plodding on blubbering like a baby!
9) 5.15 pm (finishers after 6pm dont get a medal!) and I finally cross the line!!! I'VE FINISHED! 6 hours, 55 mins, 26 secs after starting.
This is the 3rd time i've finished this race, having done so in 2001 and 2003, but never before has it been so damn hard as it was yesterday, with pretty much everything that could have gone wrong doing just that! The toughest day of my life, without a doubt.
I'm now at home barely able to move, depending heavily on a pair of walking sticks, and fell out of the shower this morning so i've now cut my forehead! Never fealt so crap!
The mrs asked me when I got home late last night will you do it again. My reply? Maybe. :-)
