To be honest when I did some research into the life of Asylum seekers. I found that they were worse off in this country than in their homeland.
Put it this way, if the UK had nothing to be gained from immigration we wouldn't let people in. The unpalatable truth is that immigrants (legal or otherwise) are very good for our economy. Old people are not.
Some facts:
Asylum seekers and refugees do not get large handouts from the state
Asylum seekers do not come to the UK to claim benefits. In fact, most know nothing about welfare benefits before they arrive and had no expectation that they would receive financial support.
Most asylum seekers are living in poverty and experience poor health and hunger.
Almost all asylum seekers are not allowed to work and are forced to rely on state support - this can be as little as £5 a day to live on.
Asylum seekers do not jump the queue for council housing and they cannot choose where they live. The accommodation allocated to them is not paid for by the local council. It is nearly always "hard to let" properties, where other people do not want to live.
The UK is home to less than 2% of the world's refugees - out of 16 million worldwide.
Immigrants, including refugees, pay more into the public purse compared to their UK born counterparts.
That is the real life of refugees, not that load of nonsense at the top of the page, so don't get to outraged.

Just to clarify, what are you talking about?
Why? Once a person has legally gained entry into the country they have the same rights and responsibilities as you or I.
As for the ones here 'illegally' or pending, would you rather see them die or something rather than 65 million people on this island paying about 3 pence to keep the alive?
Once people get this newspaper myth out of the minds that people are coming to the UK to sponge off 'us taxpayers' then perhaps they will begin to empathise with the desperate state people are in.
Asylum seekers are leaving their homes because it isn't safe for them to live there, not for a 3 bedroom semi in leafy Surrey.

i meant the wars they went through.....for what???.........a pension that couldnt provide for a hamster and a country thats full of immigrants

It's fine that they come to the country but why should they be allowed to take extra money from the British taxpayer? They are here to work and nothing more. If they can't find work they should be deported. I'd be fine if they were to become eligible for benfefits after working for over a certain number of years but even so, they are here to work.

Also, how on Earth would you know that they aren't here for the benefits? They're obviously not going to admit that they're here for benefits but they must know that there is a corrupted benefit system in the UK. Millions of immigrants are here in the UK. Are you saying that word doesn't get to the home country that there is free money available? I'm not saying they definitely come here for benefits but tere must be a chunk of them that are here for exactly that reason.

I know a few immigrants that live near me (really nice guys), and one of them told me that he was here not to work but here for the benefits, he lives on the same housing estate as me (5year old properties, not unwanted/lettable) and he gets full benefits and drives a BMW 118i.

only thing i will add is that whats point having border control if they can be in your eyes legally in the country? they are there to keep immigrants out, sure some are genuine but most are not.

Is 5£ a day really worth uprooting your family 1000s of miles? I wouldn't unless I didn't have the choice.
It is hardly like what the UK did to countries in the past by invading and enslaving it's indiginous people. It is very much on UK terms.
Border control are not there to keep immigrants out.
The UK has a proud tradition of providing a place of safety for genuine refugees. However, we are determined to refuse protection to those who do not need it, and will take steps to remove those who are found to have made false claims.
The last part of your post is wrong by the way. 28% of unsuccessful asylum claims are overturned in court. So they are very harsh on who is allowed to live legally in the UK.
