Sorry, I haven't read the full thread but I had the java problem the other day where it kept spinning but didn't load up.
I tried to uninstall java then reinstall, didn't work. Tried uninstalling Safari (my browser) and reinstalling, didn't work. I don't know if this was just complete luck, but I found that if I disabled java through my browser and the re-enabled, it started working. I don't know if this will help you mate but I hope it does!
