I'm about halfway through a week or so of updates I would like to do for funkypool and snooker. Alongside 6 ball, moving the cue ball (if realistic) I will need to do work on bugfixes, eg changes to the backend correctly handle IPv6 addresses (they sort of work but cause a lot of logs on the server).
Then I'll concentrate back on the mobile app. The work I'm doing on the mobile app will in theory work also on iPhone, however this is completely untested and will cost a lot in license fees, hence I'm concentrating on getting a viable Android app out as soon as possible. There is not that much more required for this stage as a lot of the mobile app is actually coded but not ready to be launched.
Nick, great to see some instant progress following the thread.... are you able to share with us your plans and timelines as soon as you've looked at everything?

Hi Nick you say you are looking into planting 6 ball snooker on here.. Any idea on how long that will take or when it will be on ?

nice changes nick particular replacing balls after a foul. hopefully now people may not pushout although they would be at a disadvantage.
could you add a button where from a ball in hand you can reposition the white as several people could put it in wrong place without ability to put it right.
im not keen on 6 ball although it will probably grow on me. i prefer hard modes instead of easy.
carom points could be done as friendly only instead of the rank problem

Another update should be making the spin more realistic,.,and making it so you cant screw back when the whites on the cushion..

Agreed I'd like to see spin options reflecting real life situations a little more. The number of times I've played a great safety shot tight on the cushion then remembered it makes no difference on here!!

agreed although it only affects position not the pot since you can pot from almost anywhere.
i would love an orig type where you cannot put backspin on cushion, long pots and shots off the cushion are made difficult (e.g. bigger aimer) this also makes breaking into baulk worthwhile instead of tip tap, touching ball (i know about the pixel but if it looks touching then could be declared), free ball, replacing after a foul etc

You can get back spin and screw on the cushion.. I play in real life loads.. so that wouldnt work unless it was dead accurate.

I've said it before but I think the issue with the cushion spin thing is that the available spin changes as you rotate the cue. Playing perpendicular to the cushion you can only hit the top 2/3 (ish), but playing parallel to it it's one side of the ball you can't hit. The spin you can put on would have to change as you changed where you were aiming and I'm sure that would be tricky to code in a continuous way, especially as cushions are a really awkward shape.

Even if the cue ball is completely dead on the cushion you can still use backspin - the only thing that the cushion does is forces the butt of the cue to be raised. So I'm guessing for this to work it'd be the same problem as implementing swerve and masse in that a 3D engine would have to used

true but what about the phone app? you cant use backspin on cush on their i heard and thats 2D i think so it might be possible.
pirate when its dead on cush i havent seen a backspin shot since you can only hit Top, Middle and Side.

I haven't had a chance to play the app so I'm not entirely sure how it works there. It does become harder to use spin with a dead cue ball, but it's not impossible is my point - If you hit the middle of the cue ball but dig right down you will get back spin. Think it's just better to keep the system now where the cushion doesn't effect the cue placement, it could work, but then you'd have to introduce butt angle etc

Dragging the cue ball to position is now, finally, added. Please let me know any issues.
The code now goes through a more rigorous compression and optimisation process. This means the game size is reduced by a few percent, makes the code easier to maintain, and it will slightly increase performance of the game.
