Absolutely not, at the current time we are not allowed to disclose any type of this information at all.

If we did do this, it could lead to severe abuse.

This idea has been mentioned before on pool and had quite a following, especially from staff.

That suggestion was to have users banned in that week listed on the first page, to show that rulebreaking is taken seriously and to avoid the need for threads like the one created earlier enquiring about why someone was banned.

Banned users are gone, so cannot be subject to abuse.

A simple change of wording in the rules to make people aware that if they break the rules, they are banned, and the reason displayed for a few days would suffice.

No personal detains would be displayed, only username and reason.

i think this is a great idea cos at present time i dont no what the punishment is for certain crimes like the length of ban etc... (not that im intending on getting banned!)

All bannings are permanent unless admin decide otherwise.

Couldn't say it much better myself spinner. I like the idea although hoping it won't encourage naming and shaming from user to active user.

A forum would be good or a forum sticky. Like you said, when a user is banned from the site he/she should not be subjected to abuse (unless on a secondary account in which they bring it on themselves).

What do you mean by first page spinner? Home page?

so if u get caught swearing in a room thats it permanent ban? Wow i thought it was just for a few days or so!

also is there a way to appeal against a banning like in the workplace - unfair dismissal!

If you are caught swearing it usually results in a boot. However if user was very abusive or gets booted many times then this may result in a ban.

Seeing as though some people seem un-sure on banning offences...

I just dont think this is a good idea, what happens if that uesr is allowed back on? All bannings are not permanent, as we have seen in the past. They may be permanent on one account, but sometimes the user is given another chance on a different account. I think the reason for the bannings is private information that should be kept between the banned user and the admin.

I just don't see anything good that can come from this. I know people claim that it could show that we are serious about our bannings, but i believe just the threat of being banned is enough. I just don't it to seem like we advocate naming and shaming. Not to mention most users who are banned, don't deserve the satisfaction of leaving a permanent part of them on the site.

good point but how about this;

somewhere there is a list of bannings without mentioning names but saying like how many people have been banned for abuse, swearing etc. eg

banning

24 people have been banned for constant swearing
56 people have been banned for abuse
13 people have been banned for spamming

Problem with this is it defeats the overall point of listing banned users.

It seems people are questionable about why another user has been banned (like creating threads "why is (user) banned?"). By listing the user and the reasons for it, it will hopefully cure this problem. I know what some people are saying that it should be between that user (past tense ) and staff. But it shouldn't be a problem. When a user is booted the reason is clearly there if your in the room.

A 'read only' thread could be implemented as a possibility to prevent arguments. An example could be:

farren
Banned for consistant rule breaking.

begger
Banned for threatening behaviour.

driver8
Banned for offensive language.

IMO if you don't want to be named in the forums, don't break the rules! Simple!

but people have always asked why certain users has been banned. and it has never been told why. so why change the ways now?

why don't people just mind their own business when it comes to people being banned...

hey, problem solved!

or even better yet, don't get banned!

it isnt about noseying its about making an example of those who get banned so others are not so quick to follow suit! and also its ok for you mods to say dont be nosy but I bet you tell each other over a cup of tea whos ben banned for what reason.
