no, actually we don't. half the time i don't realize people are even banned. and we don't talk about why or giggle and say "told you so". we're just like you guys, and really, i just trust our admin and know that if someone is banned, it was for good reason.
What will naming people and showing why they were banned make an example? The rules are stated in multiple places on this site, and all thats posted when someoe was banned is a copy of which rules they broke.

A forum would be good or a forum sticky. Like you said, when a user is banned from the site he/she should not be subjected to abuse (unless on a secondary account in which they bring it on themselves).
What do you mean by first page spinner? Home page?
I Meant in the announcements (Which is now the first page you see after logging in)
Which would be effectively what you suggest Farren, a sticky and capped thread on announcements.
IMO if you don't want to be named in the forums, don't break the rules! Simple!
Exactly

i agree. it doesn't matter why someone got banned. they got banned and there is a good reason for it. if names are listed then the whole object of keeping the reason why someone got banned secret is effectively blown out of the window.
whats the point really naming someone when they have been banned? some people purposely come on here to annoy and get banned so some people would be thrilled with leaving a lasting impression on the game...either leave it as it is or use my idea i meantioned eariler. its stipid to list names i think.

why don't people just mind their own business when it comes to people being banned...
hey, problem solved!
or even better yet, don't get banned!

it isnt about noseying its about making an example of those who get banned so others are not so quick to follow suit! and also its ok for you mods to say dont be nosy but I bet you tell each other over a cup of tea whos ben banned for what reason.

also to the second quote is that what was the point in saying that about mods and admin? they have enough work as it is without 'talking' to each other about bannings. sorry but i think it was a pointless comment

It doesn't take long for members to notice that another member hasn't been on for a while, once checked to see the persons last log in it comes up banned user then the questions start. Bannings are not kept a secret for long as we all know! Members always find out so there is no point in trying to keep them a secret anyway.

What bad will it do?
Most complaints we get through contact us are banning enqiries so this makes it easier.

Right i am going to totally disagree, some members including myself will NOT want to be tarnished because of one stupid mistake, if the banning reasons are made public then this must constitute breach of privacy

agree with that because of one mistake, someone gets banned and their name put out somehwere on the website is pointless and inapporpiate...still going to stand by idea i said eariler. or even just not mention banning at all

It serves as a deterrent. Stops the "nothing ever happens" claims. Stops people rumour-mongering. Eases hassle on mods/admin having to answer "why was so and so banned?" enquirys.
As said before - its not naming and shaming, as a banned user is gone. Period. No invasion of privacy occurs as no private information is being revealed, and as drunk_lass said, all banning reasons become public eventually anyway. This system would actually be fairer on banned users as it eliminates misinformation.
It would also be extremely positive for the site(s), as new users, parents etc, would see that unsuitable behavior is positively dealt with.
As farren said - what bad can it do?
edit - no-one ever gets banned for "one stupid mistake". remember this is banning we're talking about, not booting.

Exactly spinner.
And as i said before, when someone is booted for multi-using (as an example) it comes up in the room "Farren is booted for multi-using". What difference would it make if this was the case for bannings?
farren
Banned for multi-using
Banned users shouldn't be gaining privacy reasons just because they are banned users. If people are allowed to see why a user is booted, then it's only rightfull that people can see why they are banned.

So a member that has had a completely tarnish free background and makes one mistake should be made a public mockery?
Rediculous

Let's think about this. Banned Users have been banned for a reason. I don't see the point of the reasons being disclosed. If you have been banned and you feel it was wrong then you have the right to find out. Also, i think it would make the admins and mods job easier if they didn't have to say why someone has been banned. Really, in this thread, we are giving banned users publicity, because we are arguing about them, when really there are 100 other things we could be doing!

To be honest, the system we currently have in place is pretty good. If a player does break the rules then other users can easily send a complaint.
Its not as if there are tonnes and tonnes of rule breakings happening left-right and centre. Personally I wouldnt like to see a name and shame forum about bannings. People here already know that anybody breaking the rules are punished as appropriate.
Also wouldnt this idea goes against our "no name and shame" policy? Cant see what exactly we hope to achieve by this.

Yup i dont think we need to know about why people get banned. People who do get banned either find out for themselves VIA Contact Us or just leave it because we should be able to have privacy right.!
