Ok, So I know this has been spoken about like a million times, but can we please, please, PLEASE!! have the option to specify between two ranks whilst setting up a game, and anyone who doesn't have that rank simply isn't allowed to enter.
It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do...
Name: funkyjess's game
Ranked: Yes
Time Limit: 20 secs
Minimum Rank: 700
Maximum Rank: 800
Surley that's do-able!?
It's so annoying when you create a game called "750 plus" and someone enters who is 690 and says "Please play me!" Grrrrr!!!

Just a small request to read the forums before creating a new thread, as not only has this been discussed many times in the past, it was the subject of a thread created yesterday, which was the thread at the top of the forum when this was created!
As has been said, a restrictive system is not desireable as it is very unfair to restrict the freedom of the majority of players, just because a few people want to be picky about who they play.
An update to show the ranking of the player in a room on the room selection window would let people choose the rank of thier opponent, without affecting others.

Also, it's not about being picky about who you play, it's about risk vs. reward.
If someone 800 plays someone 600 they stand to lose 20points, and only stand to gain 2! (I don't know the exact numbers but you get the point!) So therefore the risk of playing someone isn't work it, as the best possible outcome is gaining 2 points.
It's the exact same reason why boxers don't fight below their weight class, cos the only possible outcome is humiliation. And the same reason that established singers don't enter the Eurovision. They're not PICKY just intelligent!

Hmmm... no need for that. But yes as spinner said, this is only a game, you should be able to play whoever you want.

All well and good saying that, but then what's the point in having ranking points if it's "only a game". Football is "only a game" and that causes people to riot!

I can see where you're coming from, but I can also see where Spinner's coming from... There are factors that support the both opinions. The account of lower ranked players has to be taken into thought, over time it may end up where there are hardly any games for people ranked under 700 because people have the oppurtunity to block them out.
However, while I've not been in this situation as I don't really mind who I play (As long as they're high ranked newbies, he obviously aren't actually newbies), where someone joins a room that states a rank and then doesn't leave I understand that it must be quite frustrating for the owner of the room.

in this scenario there are 2 good sides to the arguement.. firstly, on the one hand its a game and just because a person is a certain rank does this mean they shouldnt be able to access certain games, also if it was a fixed amount what if say for example it was 700-800 and the potential opponent was 801?
On the other hand it is sometimes frustrating when a 600 rank player goes into a 900 plus room (for example) but in the main people are respectful of the room name e.g. 800 plus
Note: We use these forums as a place to discuss issues, queries etc... so please keep the forums clean and polite

I dont see the point, when i log on i hope to find a game and a player with the same or higher rank, but if i dont i play it, newbie or not, because i was once there and no how it feels lol!

The thing is, there are people out there who will play ranked games against anyone, there are also people out there who won't. There are also people out there who only play friendlies.
To put a restriction on who can enter and play in your room is not required in my opinion, if you are prepared to sit there for however long until the perfect playing partner comes along, you can enter other games and find him just as quick!!!

i agree with lyle. you should be able to play who you want to and when you want to cus rank means nothing some 600s beat 900s and if the 900 wants to risk losing alot of points its there choice.so for that reason i dont like the idea.

Why can't Rushden & Diamonds play Man Utd every Saturday? Cos they're not in the same league. Does that cause contoversy? No!
I think more than anything, it would create an incentive. Rushden play harder, hoping to one day be in the Premiership.
I think it would be great to have tourny's where you couldn't enter below a certain rank (as well as open to all tourny's too!! It's just an incentive! Like Masters Snooker, the top 16 automatically qualifiy. It's just like a "Thank You" for taking your time to play this game! And an incentive for those lower down. Imagine how hard people would work to get to 700/750/800(whatever!) if it meant they could enter a different tourny!
It's also worth pointing out, that my idea was to be optional, so if you're one of the people that aren't bothered about who you play, don't set a threshold, it's that simple!
And also, I'm not ranked very highly at all, so don't think it's me trying to isolate the low rank players, cos I'm one of them!

The problem comes when people who dont care who they play are denied access to a game because someone else does.
Its common sense that someone who wants something specific is the one who should be looking for it, not the other way round.
"Masters tourneys" have been mentioned before, and will possibly come in future, i know its a well liked idea.
However entry would have to be based on tourney performance rather than rank, as there are players who play tournaments and do very well, but who dont play ranked games etc.
There are many different aspects of the "rank" discussion. One of the fundimental flaws in the ranking system is that people can be selective, therefore someones rank isn't necessarily a true reflection of ability.

Basically im pretty fed up and am sure others are too, in regards to unwanted players and timewasters whom do not meet requirements when joining a room. Most commonly, when a player would like to play another similar ranked player for obvious reasons, ie: 900 plus only. Though in return get newbies and timewasters joining your room, having to put up with verbal abuse for not playing, being told im scared of playing etc, they then decide to leave and rejoin on numerous occasions and so on and so forth.
Perhaps if 1 of the 2 options can be introduced:
- The creator of the room has the option before starting a game to kick unwanted timewasters out of the room for a min or so.
- Upon creating a room, an option is available to state the minimum rank required to join the room.

I also understand these options may block out a lot of players, due to not meeting the specific requirements of the room. Thus it may make sense to make the above options available solely to people who are ranked 880+(or whatever the suitable high-ish rank), since its the 880+> that are the minority. Ultimately pleasing people whom are competitive and others.
Any low ranked player eg 600 will always want to play a high ranked player eg 900, whereas its the complete opposite for a high ranked player, for logical reasons.
Since low ranked players are the majority in funkysnooker it means high ranked players have to put up with allot more of time wasting, with various newbies joining, leaving, joining and so on. Yes its very frustrating, yes i wait aprox 7 min on average per game, yes i join & leave without a game and concluding yes the low ranked players have everything to play for and we dont.
As for its only a game, its also human nature to be competitive, its a good thing

The system is fine as it is, yeh it is annoying when a lowly ranked player comes to your game and abuses you for not playing them, but we all started as lowly ranked players wanting to play people better than us, so put yourself in their shoes
