I dont really know if playing a newbie really effects you ranking status regarding what you win or lose but if it does, people might like to know if they are playing an 800+ newbie !

mate when you join a game it says the_boss (899.8 newbie) so bit pointless mate

Information on the help pages suggest ranking reduction and gain is effected if a player with newbie status is taking part... so in a way this may give certain users reason to avoid newbies most likely with a higher rank.

I assume the idea of owner ranking being shown next to the username before you have the option to join is there to prevent the messy task of users 'jumping' between rooms to find an opponents rank they prefer. Obviously this is pretty much delt with due to the new update but you may still get someone browsing a game thinking "an 800+ ranked player, i'll take some of them points !" then upon joining, discover that he/she is a newbie resulting in a reduction of rank gained if they win even though the 'high ranked newbie' might possibly have a better chance.

The idea of adding an (N) or something similar would just simply clean up whatever 'game hopping' is still left to nought.

So in a way saying it's pointless means the rank shown is pointless too
