In response to previous page...

I think it might be a good idea to take a look back at Nick's original post on the premium service.

Feedback was given on this, and it was made pretty clear what would/would not happen.

Also, it was made clear that the only difference (at the moment, and even possibly in the future), is the removal of ads, to enable a larger playing table.

The way I see it, there may be some aesthetical changes, but nothing substantial I would guess.

Nick (From the original 'funkysnooker premium?' thread) said:
A while ago I decided to cancel the old plans to have a 2-tiered structure, free account and premium. I don't want to charge money for extra features, and my feelings remain the same.

However there's been some persistent feedback that some people would be happy to contribute a modest fee for services. In some cases people want to contribute, in other people don't wish to see adverts (they feel strongly against adverts or adverts interfere with gameplay due to their system setup).

I was also thinking I could completely remove the top part of the game window (with logo and advert) for such users gaining significant space.

Note I have no plans to change the current service or that a user will get any additional features.

I'm just after some feedback for now.

Nick

Grr it's annoying this! Found my card.... typed in my bank details and clicked proceed, then it said you're account details exist with pay pal proceed using that or something so i thought OK.... anyways i typed in my password for pay pay and it said it takes 7-9 working days for you're money to transfer from you're bank to pay pal... not worth the wait that! O well ...

Si, I don't want to get into an arguement with you, but maybe you should have investigated this more instead of rushing to be the first member to sign up. I for one would be rather annoyed if so many new feature kept popping up for premium accounts only, but I am sure that wont happen. As nick said ^^^^ premium will be availiable for those who want to CONTRIBUTE or those who want no adverts, and more importantly: Note I have no plans to change the current service or that a user will get any additional features.

Now I thought that by eliminating adverts, premium members would be at no risk of lag, but it turns out your going to get more table space, which I would consider to be an advantage that us ordinary members don't have. Now I don't care if premium users get new felts, new cues, new logo, new backgorunds, new smilies, new fonts, or any other different graphic options, but what really would annoy me is if premium members got updates which would put them at an advantage over us mere members, then I would be disgruntled.

And if this site ever goes like runescape, i'd be the first out the door - what drivel.

I feel better for saying that now

in most aspects i agree with si TBH, your paying for a product, you want something to show for it right? however i do think there should be a few "premium only" updates as that would encourage more users to pay (Nick's perspective) £10 is reasonable enough for 6 months, but just to remove some adverts and slighty bigger table? should be called "Member +" not premium, thats why i think there should be premium only updates to attract more people to it. the thing bout runescape is the game core stays the same, but with added features, like this, for example, would be all the game disciplines, but with special premium member options and stuff, thats fair enough IMO. With the "them & us" situation i agree with both sides of the argument.

For: You just bought somethin, so your going to want to show it. (you bought a watch... going to keep in drawer? no)

Against: However, as stated before, the word "premium" should be changed to "Member+" or something along them lines, because premium makes it sound better than it actually is.

To Sumarize:
I dont think its a bad idea Nick, dont get me wrong, because it can be expanded into something great, but for the moment... I'm gonna stick put with some adverts an slighty smaller baize thank you very much.

I would like to thanks the Mrs. & the child for this presentation, live long and prosper

I think a lot of people are forgetting that about a year ago, "premium" as was defined in the long standing link on the homepage, was introduced. But the features were given to all members, for free.

Since then there have been many discussions on a "new" premium version, all of which can still be read here. Lets not forget the dozens of well supported requests for a way to donate/contribute to the site, and to remove ads.

I believe the current situation to be very fair, provides what has been requested for a long time, and upkeeps the sites longstanding philosophy of alevel playing field for all.

If you *really* have to think about it in materialistic terms, however, its still a gerat deal. After all, a player with a small monitor and/or slower computer, can now increase table size and game performance for less than 40p a day, a lot cheaper than buying a new PC and/or bigger monitor!

I have one hypothetical query... What happens if someone takes out a premium account and then gets banned for foul language? Because funkysnooker has agreed to let them have 6 months unlimited access etc
