I'm afraid that's problems due to your age and the law of the land.
You would also be left out if you have friends over 18 and they went to a nightclub but it does not mean that new nightclubs should not open.

What is the gambling laws btw? Cos as I said, I was gambling legally at 13 on fruit machines. Is £5 jackpot the max for u18 gambling? The lottery however is 16 plus and the jackpot is millions
I've sadly not won yet though
Also, would proof of ID be more secure than the current system?, which can easlily be got round.

Any one who wishes gamble using a credit card must be strictly over 18. Unless you nik you're mums bank card.
I remember opening an account with a betting firm when i was 17, i got on it then they blocked my account within 2 minutes. Never went back since, gambling is a mugs game, but what were talking about here is it involves you're own skill witch isn't really gambling.

Ok, in a final attempt to keep this thread on topic, I've created a thread for the discussion of gambling similar to pool's : http://www.funkysnooker.com/viewTopic.do?topicid=5083
As for the age verification, remember in the end it is a matter of a binding contract. If someone "proves" their age to the standard required, it is their problem if they commit fraud.

So will this be on a completely new site, domain and all or accessed through the pool site? Sorry if i missed it somewhere on this thread (skipped a few pages as it got a bit dull )
I doubt Killer for cash would have any effect on this site at all. I'm not saying that as a fact but i cannot or have not seen any logical explanation as to why this would be the case.
It is optional. the_kop if you think it is moraly wrong then simply don't use it. The term "funkysnooker should be family friendly" has been said many times, and that still is the case... killer for cash won't be on this site!
We need not worry about age verification, just leave that to nick an co. If other similar sites work successfully then i am sure this would be pretty safe too.
Spinner would make a good bouncer anyway. He scares me
When it comes to personal interest, i'd play it but only if the stakes are quite low. In that way it keeps the fun but you get the reward too. Also it shouldn't result in attracting the over-competitive types who only play for the money if the stakes are lower, and it will make people want to play more games.

If I've read it correctly and it is on a separate site with a link from FunkySnooker/Pool, I can't see that it should cause anyone a problem any more than any of the existing adverts (some of which may be to gambling type sites). It is up to the individual to decide whether to participate or not (I wouldn't be one of them by the way, but that is my personal preference - I prefer to play for fun). I assume, of course, that it wouldn't be an 'in your face' sort of thing. Such sites already exist and I see no reason why Nick should not exploit this source of revenue.
I do have reservations about 'cheating', however, which I hope Nick has considered:
When playing only for ranking points or kudos, it is not really worth anyone investing time and effort in coming up with methods of cheating (even though people do now, nothing real is lost or gained) and guarding against such things does not have to be very rigorous. When playing for money, however, we are talking a completely different ball game as there is a real value reward and a proper risk assessment needs to be performed to identify potential threats and risk reduction solutions - this is not necessarily a trivial task.
Even so, this is Nick's problem and not ours.

Hi there,
if people participate under the age of 18 then they are eligible to win a prize like a snooker cue for example.
there is no law against that i think!
Mooney_147 said:
doubt it would work personally. wouldn't you have to be at least 18 to play it though? which would be unfair on some of us younguns who might not be allowed to use our skills to earn something, where us others could win a small bonus
quite regularly.

And how exactly do you plan for them to get that snooker cue?

Yes, the best way is for a completely isolated area. What do you mean by "in your face"? If you mean would the cash area be lots of flashing lights, noises and things like that I would think not as that would be distracting.

It is a concern to me, but poker sites have had this problem for years so it's not new territory.

all i can say is i dont agree with this but it is probably going to happen, no matter how much damee and mike (the_kop) try to argue against it.

I, for the first time tonight have just played snooker (real life obv) for money, and it has completely changed my mind on the whole outlook of this concept. It was possibly the most competitive game of snooker I've ever played without the pettiness I was expecting with money on the line, I clearly wanted to win because of the stake but the fact that there was something on the line which made it so much better, it was only £5 like but I was more then happy to win a game I love and walk out with a heavier pocket then I started with!
So all in all I think I like this idea!

What I meant was things like, for example, half page ads on the log on screen or structuring in such a way that it gives the initial impression that the cash game is the main focus of the site, as this may deter new users from joining or raise concerns of parents/guardians of younger users.
To steal a metaphor from the 'Great gambling debate thread'
http://www.funkysnooker.com/viewTopic.do?topicid=5083 :
There is a big difference between a football stadium with a betting shop at the entrance and a betting shop with a football ground in it's back yard.

That's a good point. No, I wouldn't want to do anything to impacts negatively on the current sites.

Hi all,
I think if you want to play for cash then pay pal is the safest answer
Say for instance you click on Funky Snooker Cash Games, then you would have to go through pay pal security to enter
So if you dont have a pay pal account then you simply cannot play!
Then when you are in the cash site you can click on any Funky Game for cash
Plus if it went well on a trial period then you could have prize games like winning a snooker cue or anything in fact and any one can enter this to win a prize.

they can get a sponsor 18+ to back them may be £2 or something and then nick takes his cut for setting the game up and the rest of the pot buys the cue
+ postage
what do you think?

Why can't people just buy credits and then they can pay for the credits say £10 for 100 credits then if they wanted they could say play for 20 credits each what would amount to £2 then anybody can use a payment method ie; pay pal credit card debit card and so on even someones friend can use there credit card for the player to obtain credits for them which can be redeemed back for cash.
